5 out of 5 stars Swim don't sink with this five star guide   August 18, 2008
As a GP Programme Director and Locum I have found this book invaluable when navigating the choppy waters of locum practice, and when planning teaching to GP VTS Registrars, this book reminds me of every last aspect of locum practice that any doctor would need to know. I recommend it to my GP Trainees, and I recommend it to you

5 out of 5 stars You would be silly not to buy this book!   February 9, 2006

Most doctors simply do not understand business - particularly GP registrars leaving the protected world of a salaried training post and entering the wide world of being a freelance (locum) GP. You should recoup the cost of this book almost instantly, so it is a very wise investment. It is a structured and informative guide to the world of locum work with many practical, easy to understand tips. This book is probably the next most essential thing for locum GPs after their GMC and Medical Indemnity certificates!

5 out of 5 stars A much needed, complete book, on locum survival!   February 3, 2006

I have been a G.P. locum for 5 years now. I must says i was in the wilderness till i came across Robbie's book.

He has done all the hard work by laying bare the cold and hard facts of been a self employed person and and a doctor. The information he has provided has been invaluable to me in securing work with practices and has helped me negotiate bettr with surgeries.

No locum can be without this book!

BUY IT!

5 out of 5 stars every registrar should read this   February 2, 2006

a simple and straightforward book, tells you what you need to know, how to do it, and what to watch out for.
easily read, lots of realistic examples, just what one would expect from one who has 'been there and done that'.
on my practice bookshelf with a note to the registrar to read before setting out into the big wide world of locuming, but also useful as a guide to the challenges there can be in the world of general practice.
Has saved me from having to do that as a tuorial.
particularly usefull is the section on charging and how to work out how much to charge to get the income you want from the amount of work you are happy to do.
this should be on every GP trainers bookshelf as well as recomended reading for every VTS.
