5 out of 5 stars One of the reasons why Coben is unbeatable!   May 23, 2008

`Fade Away' by Harlan Coben is the third book in the series starring sports rep/private investigator Myron Bolitar. A famous basketball player who is also Myron's ex-rival goes missing and Myron is hired to go undercover as a his replacement on the team to investigate the disappearance and can get close to the other players on the team to get more information on the disappearance.

This is the third Myron book I've read (in order) and they just get better and better! The story was again very fast-flowing with lots of excitement and mystery, and twists and surprises around every corner. There's not so much of Win or Jessica in this book but a few new characters are introduced and a few are missing entirely, such as the Ache brothers and Jake. Myron's usual sharp wit and cracking one-liners are back and as good as ever too, adding a bit more humour to the excellent story and dialogue. The story had me at the opening chapter when Myron is asked to play for the New Jersey Dragons to go undercover and find the missing superstar and from that point I was it hooked. The plot kept me guessing all the way through and the outcome came as a surprise. And then there's the amazing ending that had me literally in shock when I'd read it as it was so unexpected.

Overall Coben has done it again and written another absolute masterpiece with one of the best characters in crime fiction that I've ever read. Highly recommended if you have read the first two in the series and I imagine would still be a great read as a standalone. Just don't expect to stop reading until you've finished it!

4 out of 5 stars the truth about the end of Myron's basketball career   September 25, 2007
Another excellent read by Harlan Coben. I finished this book in no time, reading at every opportunity. It's not only about what happened to Greg Downing but also what happened to Myron's career in Basketball.

5 out of 5 stars Third in the Myron Bolitar Series   June 22, 2007

Harlan Coben continues to prove that he is one of the best thriller writers around at the moment. A page turner is a much used phrase but in this case it is really appropriate. The author's books are always so well structured and his character's well rounded. He is obviously comfortable with his style and ability and this transmits itself to the reader making the reading of his books sheer pleasure from start to finish. Coben has now got a string of best selling crime novels behind him and all I can say is that I hope he continues to write for many years to come. The author lives in New Jersey with his wife and four children.

Myron Bolitar once had, had being the operative word a very promising career as a professional sportsman, that is until an accident ended his hopes of sporting glory. After a while working for the FBI he now has the luxury of working for himself.

Myron is officially approached to find Greg Downing. Downing is a man that Myron knows from way back, not only because they were once rivals in sport, but also for a woman that both men loved. Now Greg has vanished and the team's boss wants Myron to find him, hopefully before news of his disappearance is leaked to the press.

While giving Greg's house the once over Myron finds blood in the basement, not just a few spots but lots of it. When he discovers the body of a woman he begins to unravel the macabre world of a national hero gone wrong. Finding it hard to believe his own eyes Myron comes face to face with a past he wants to forget and a present that could cost him his life.

4 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised   January 17, 2006

Having not been very impressed with the previous "Myron Bolitar" novel I read, I wasnt sure if buying another one was going to be a good move.

Fortunately my fears were unfounded as this was a cracking read as Myron goes undercover in a basketball team to find a missing player.

Still not as good as his non Bolitar books but still highly recommended

This book is filled with twists and turns that keep you wondering who did it from begin to end. Harlan has a way of keeping you on the edge of you seat until you finish the very last page. I love the Myron Bolitar series!
