Crewel World is the centre of all needlework supplies in a small town in Minnesota. The owner's sister arrives seeking solace from a broken marriage but soon finds herself bereft of her murdered sister. The anger that has pushed aside the grieving drives our heroine into gathering together unmatching threads of factoids until she is able to present a finished pattern to the police.
I've just spent 3 days immersed in Crewel World's friendly small-town ambience and plan to buy the rest of Ms. Ferris's books. Despite the inevitable murder mystery sociopaths blending into their environs, the rest are often welcoming with those very human quirks that bring the characters into life.
Although the action centres around needlework I don't think it's necessary to know much as our we get to listen in to our heroine's struggles with her first projects.
