1 out of 5 stars What a shame!   August 18, 2008
I loved James Patterson books! I sat in a tent, in France, in the stifling heat, reading "when the wind blows" and could NOT put it down. I loved the Alex Cross books - pacey and gripping, but OH NO!!! What was this?? I agree, there were twists, but they came towards the end of the book - you had the majority out of the way before the twists, then they seemed to be squashed in, as an afterthought - the first half was loooong - appreciate we're trying to build tension here, but pffff! I was just really frustrated! If I hadn't spent some hard earned petrol money on it, I'd have given up.
James, take time out, you can't need the money that much!
Give it a while, then come back, all zesty and fesity, like you used to be!! We miss the old you!

1 out of 5 stars Far fetched shallow rubbish   August 16, 2008
I have read quite a few James Patterson books - found them great well paced thrillers. This is absolutely rubbish, lazy, far fetched, shallow and I couldnt even finish it, I found it so annoying. I wont be buying anymore Patterson books

4 out of 5 stars Exciting and a real page turner   July 26, 2008
I enjoyed this book, it may not be the world's greatest piece of lierature ever written but for an easy to read page turning thriller it hits the mark. I love the short chapters, I always think they make a book that bit more readable, and this is one where you just have to keep reading a bit more. I didn't particularly think it was far fetched as some other reviewers did, it's exciting, enjoyable and what more do you want of a thriller?

4 out of 5 stars One of the best books from Patterson   July 23, 2008
Over the recent years I've read most of Patterson and Co's colloborations and each time I seem to come away less than satisfied but 'The Quickie' fully regains my faith in Patterson's ability to offer up a pulse-quickening thriller. (although i'm really not sure how much of the writing Patterson is really offering in these collaborations).
This book starts with Lauren Stillwell catching her husband heading into a hotel with an unknown women during his lunchbreak, expecting the worst she comes to the conclusion that he is having an affair so she decides to go out and have an affair of her own. This, evidently, was Lauren's first big mistake which sets off a chain of earth-shattering events for Lauren and all those around her.
This book is a quick read with Patterson's trademark short chapters 'The Quickie' truly is a rollercoaster ride full of heartstopping thrills and shocks, some steamy sex scenes and absolutely loop the loop plotting.
Id recommend this book to any one.

1 out of 5 stars appalling!   July 15, 2008
This has to be one of the worst Patterson & Co. novels that has ever come my way!

Very unbelievable plotline, how can somebody in her profession be so ruled by 'love' which is really not an option considering what she has been up to! The main character seemed to be able to brush a crime that she saw between her husband and lover under the carpet, almost as if it didn't happen. I was expecting the story to become a dreamscape and the main character to wake up after a bad nights sleep. Unfortunately it didn't and we were to be asked to accept that it could really happen like that!!!! Maybe in a Romantic suspense novel by an amateur writer, not as the cover suggests. I should have known better to expect a very recent Patterson & Co. book to be penned by a seasoned novelist who HAS produced some brilliant work, albeit some years ago. Please either give it a rest or find somebody who can ghost write at a more presentable level.
