Muslims will struggle to refute this excellent book July 21, 2008

Muhammad is supposedly a role model for ALL of humanity (not just 7th century Arabians). Yes the book is negatively one sided, but all the 'deeds' protrayed are sourced from Muslims writings (Quran, Hadiths).
In a nutshell, he orders executions & murders, condones slavery, a polygamist with 13 wives, a paedophile, a warlord. Trying to be objective, it terrifies me that 1.2bn muslims revere him as a perfect role model.

This is unfair and unjust. There are millions of Muslims who do not share the views of those that are portrayed in this book.

This author backs all his claims with evidence from respected islamic sources, which hold up to closer inspection. It is well written and it changed my view of Islam entirely. Maybe muslims should read this.

I personally believe that anybody who reads these books straigth away is an idiot. If you have time, do read the orginal Islamic text, the Quran, the Hadith, etc. Reading books like these which are anti-prophet/Islam or books which are pro-prophet/Islam like the ones that are written by Karen Armstrong makes no sense. These are written by a 3rd person in morden times with mordern views. You have to read the orginal books with keeping the times of the prophet (7th century) in mind. If you have real time at hand do read the orignial texts in full and form your own decision. Why listen to others??? I have'nt read any book including this one form the authour or books like the ones written by Karen. I feel it is absolutely foolish to read such material before even reading the original scriptures/texts. Reading such materail, in my opion, makes sense only when you have read the original scriptures/text so that you can form an intelligent opion of your own, before being carried away with readings like these. I have read the scriptures/text, both the Quran and Bible and do not find anything wrong with either. I suggests you do the same before picking up books like these. Reading such material before reading the original scriptures/texts is meaningless. Do read books like these, but only after you have understood the original books with the original times in mind. Sadly, muslims too do not understand this and try to apply age old actions to new times, when clearly they should not as the culture and way of life is different today.

I think this book should not be rated on what people think of Dr. Spencer and/or his views on Islam. It should be based purely on the essential argument highlighted in this book and key aspects of Islam history.

I have read most the Qur'nic verses and Hadiths in Arabic [originally written] referenced in this book, therefore I view the book to an honest, and accurate record of Muhammad's life and his career as prophet. All the materials are based sources widely [if not fully] endorsed and recognised in the Islamic word as the source of truth about Muhammad.

I genuinely recommend the book, it is necessary that people understand the thinking and motives of Jihadist around the world, and most importantly what are the core issues preventing Islam to be a spiritual-religion rather than [as it is now] a political ideology requires to remain in conflict to exists.
