Very Good! May 13, 2008 A prostitute is murdered on the steps of her apartment, in a run down area of Atlanta, and Detective Michal Ormewood is sent to the scene. The police soon discover that there have been a number of recent, similiar attacks, although not always fatal, involving younger victims. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation send one of their agents, Will Trent, who has been investigating these similiar crimes, to assist the Atlanta Police Department with their investigation.
I found this book an engrossing read. There is always something going on in it, that makes you want to read on. The characters in it have depth, and personality, which makes you care about them, when they are in perilious situations. There is a bit of jumping backwards and forwards at the beginning of the novel, but it all starts to make sense fairly quickly, as all is not as what the reader may have originally thought at the start of the book.
This is a standalone book, and not part of the Grant County series.
Brilliant but traumatic! May 3, 2008 This is an absolutely gripping stand alone read from Karin Slaughter.
The only caution is that if you're easily horrified by graphic descriptions of violent and terrible scenes (which I am), then the memory of this book may linger unpleasantly...
Even still, a challenging and thrilling story.
Fantastic book!!!!!!! April 23, 2008 I have read most of Karin Slaughters books and i have to say this is the best one to date. The story is amazing, the characters are so gripping, i found myself feeling so much sympathy for certain characters and so much hatred towards others, the story keeps you guessing right to the end with the twists and turns relentless. I dont think i have ever read a book so quick. The script is very clever and at times the story is quite brutal, but this just adds to the intensity. Very impressed!

Fantastic! April 15, 2008 This is one of the best books I have read, and if you have never read a Karin Slaughter book, then I highly recommend that you read this! Had me really turning the pages, absolutley brilliant!
A new style of Karin Slaughter November 21, 2007 I really enjoyed the Grant County books from Karin Slaughter, and was looking forward to something different. At first I found this book confusing. It starts on one story for a few chapters and then moves to another leaving you feeling that you've picked up a different book. I was more than 150 pages into the book before the 2 stories met. For me, this could have happened a lot sooner. I enjoyed this book in the end, but you'll need a little patience at the start as it takes a while before it all comes together.
