3 out of 5 stars A good book not as good as Blood Fever or Silverfin   July 10, 2008
Another great book by Charlie Higson. These are a great read for adults and alike. Not just young adult.
The story is fast, no sex or fowl language. Maybe not as good as Silverfin, but still a great story.
The books now produced for young adults are some of the best ever written.
The Alex Rider series is fantastic. Fledgling the first Jason Steed adventure is one of the best books I have ever read. Plus Cody Bankswas a good book.

2 out of 5 stars Double or Die   June 24, 2008
I thoughtthat this book had way to much talking and that the front cover is nothing of what you think it is.I could not tell the difference between which charater and when they where talking.Over all I thought that the book had no story what so ever and really would not advice it for people who do not like action storys

4 out of 5 stars A cracking read   June 23, 2008
I read this by accident when my son brought it home from the school library. I opened it out of curiosity, and didn't close it again until i had finished it. the story is pacy, exciting and very well-written, with ample gore and even a tiny hint of romance. Bond is clearly shaping into the adult we know so well, and the chapters set in Eton are particularly evocative.

However....

My son is only 8, and this book is too grown up for him. there are some scenes that I think an 8 year old would find truly frightening, written very descriptively, which are all too easy to picture mentally. I am glad that i read this before he did, because it is definitely not suitable for him! Additionally, the prose is quite complex and I doubt that an 8 year old would stick with it. I reckon this book would be great for a 10-12 year old boy or girl, but I don't think it is really targeted at 8 year olds....my son loves Bond in all his incarnations, but he won't be reading this one for a couple of years yet!

Still, I am glad that he brought it home, because it has introduced me to Higson's Young Bond series, and I shall definitely be reading more.

Sad state we are in when we use a classic story like James Bond and somone writes this rubbish. Its another copy of Harry Potter.

4 out of 5 stars Great- but can YOU work it out?   July 1, 2007

I really enjoyed this book. It was the best, in my opinion, in the series, but I have one critisicm.
This might sound picky, but when a book is scattered with cryptic clues, they need to be possible to work out! No reader will have any idea of the conclusion, while the characters do!
However, this shouldn't put you off. Just read it twice!
