Take miles/hours off a journey. December 21, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is very easy listening. Perfect to while away a moderately long journey. The plot is multi-facetted with inventive asides woven in. It is amusing, engaging and plausible even though the Inspector always seems to be in the right place at the right time! David Jason reads brilliantly and one can "see" him playing the part.Recommended+++++.
Entertaining detective story, Overwritten. August 15, 2001 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Entertaining good read. However the author seems to think he has to write by the yard. Too many plots and sub plots, tends to confuse and cause a suspension of belief. No one police force could manage to investigate all the mysteries, let alone one DI plus assistant. That said it is enjoyable, readable and funny. Worth buying.
Brilliantly funny June 22, 2001 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Because I enjoyed the TV series enormously I've recently purchased all of Mr Wingfield's books. The first one I chose to read was A Touch of Frost. His portrayal of all the characters is very descriptive and the narrative is brilliant in it's humour. I couldn't envisage anything better than the TV series, excellent as it was, but the books are far better. A warning though: don't read these books in public - your rawcus laughing at the wit on almost every page may just disturb others. I wish Mr Wingfield would write more. I'm suffering withdrawal symptoms already. At least 12 stars.
A brilliant listen! May 30, 2001 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Supremely disorganised, dishevelled and a brilliant detective ... what a great character Jack Frost is - played perfectly by David Jason. Thoroughly recommended ... now then, which were the other titles in the series and where's my wallet!?
