1 out of 5 stars pig island   July 20, 2008
I thought this book started well and kept me gripped until about half way though then it totally ran out of ideas and left me flat. With regard to the twist; i worked it out with about 200 pages still to read! This was my first Mo Hayder book and i decided to give Tokyo a try which is much much better and well worth a read

1 out of 5 stars Very disappointing.   July 7, 2008
I have read Tokyo, The Birdman and The Treatment and really enjoyed them. So I was really looking forward to Pig Island. What a disappointment! I can't believe Karin Slaughter would put her name to this drivel. "The most terrifyng book you'll read all this year"???? I think Miss slaughter must have read Mo Hayder's previous books and took a guess as to the contents of this one, unless someone cut out all the "Terrifying" parts of my book! The ending doesn't even make any sense it's like a totally different book. Don't waste one second reading this nonsense.

2 out of 5 stars Not her usual style   May 20, 2008
This book just isn't in the same category or class as the author's previous writings. I was looking forward to an excellently written novel with non-stop thrills. However, what in the beginning reads like the makings of a horror story turns out to be quite benign. The idea of the book is good and could have easily continued as a frightening read when we find ourselves on pig island that harbors a devilish creature and is littered with chemical waste drums. Unfortunately, the initial rush of adrenaline is not felt throughout the book and it becomes quite tedious and almost boring to read.

5 out of 5 stars Brought me back on track with Hayder's work   March 26, 2008
I lost the thread with Hayder's work after The Treatment. Pig Island looked entertaining and I was not dissapointed. The tale is perfectly balanced between horror and suspense and turned into a real page turner that only took a couple of days to finish. I just had to race towards the outcome, as there is usually some rational explaination for the characters and plot in her books. The tale, for me, was not left hanging and concluded, whilst not as expected (well done for the twist) very satisfactorily. This was not a straight forward crime or mystery novel and took some mental leaps from the reader. I like the fact that you had to think about it and summerise the ending - almost work it out for yourself. Now that is brilliant writing!

5 out of 5 stars I really liked it!!!   March 24, 2008
I just plain liked it... a lot! I had no preconceptions about the author other than she and this particular book, came recommended. I hvae not one complaint.
The ending made perfect sense to me, and i thought it was a great twist. The rest of the book captivated me nicely. I read it a while ago and can easily imagine myself back there, in any of the locations and as for it's star...the one with the tale...wow.
