5 out of 5 stars Gripping from beginning to end!   March 8, 2008
Often I find books like this have an exciting first 100 pages and a good ending but drag in the middle - not this one!! This is the most gripping book I've read in a long time. Action packed from the first page, Marc tries to unfold who shot him, killed his wife and took his six month old daughter. The mystery is gripping and the outcome is impossible to predict. Coben captures the intensity of events, but maintains the believability of the story.

I found it impossible to put it down, reading it on the bus, during class time and long into the night. A must read for everyone who enjoys a good old mystery.

5 out of 5 stars A Second Chance   January 7, 2008
Plastic surgeon Marc Seidman is shot in his home. He comes to twelve days later in the hospital and learns that his wife has been killed and his infant daughter Tara is missing. There are no leads, there is no ransom note and the police suspect Marc, however after he's released from the hospital a ransom note is finally delivered. "No cops, two million dollars and no second chance if instructions are not followed," it says. But Marc does tells the cops, then delivers the money. His daughter is not returned.

A year and a half later a second ransom note arrives.

As usual Harlan Coben takes us on a walk down dark path of our deepest fears. We suffer along with Marc at the loss of his daughter, our heart quickens when we find out she may still be alive. Also, as usual, Coben slides between the first and second person point of view with such ease we hardly know he's done it. Coben spins words so well we don't even notice we're caught in the web till the story is finished.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic   January 4, 2008
Loved every bit of this book from beginning to end. Never new what was gonna happen next. Many twists and turns that carry on right to the end.
Difficult story to follow, really felt for the main character of the book.
Definitely warrants 5 stars!!!
I've now started reading 'The Innocent' which is abother Harlan Coben book.

5 out of 5 stars Completely absorbing   December 3, 2007
This book was the cause of me not getting much sleep, not doing any ironing or cleaning, microwaving meals instead of cooking them properly, I just couldnt be away too long from the book. Utterly absorbing, exciting, thrilling, definiately a one more chapter kind of book. I wished the book was much thicker, couldnt wait to get to the end but sad when I did. I love Harlan Coben and have already bought two more of his books. Dont miss this author.

4 out of 5 stars Typical Harlan Coben novel...   October 4, 2007
... with twists and turns all the way through. I had several theories on what the outcome would be but I was totally wrong!

Better than "The Innocent" but not as good as "Gone For Good".

Definitely worth reading.
