5 out of 5 stars AWESOME   April 15, 2008
This series is probably the best thing I have seen in the last 10 years!
It REALLY IS THAT GOOD.
Without going into the whole thing, its pure collective quality.
From the amazing edge of your seat drip drip drip of suspense that makes this snowballing monster of a story rumble toward you at brake neck speed
Everything clicks, the stories interact and melt together and the characters mould into the plot as it spills out across the screen.
I spent a whole night watching this from start to finish - ending up still perched on my sofa at 4.30am in the morning inhaling briefly as I started the final episode.
If you love clever, not over the top, careful and calculated storylines which rely not on "seen-before" special effects or out dated over used actors and storylines then try this..
Its brutally fresh, raw, smart, sexy and insanely addictive
So much so I imported the second series for another marathon viewing on night...and as for the second installment...?...
..well let's just say it served as the main course of the best damn thing I've ever seen.

If you don't see this wou'll have missed something very very special

I only pray there is a 3rd series

5 out of 5 stars Best TV show ever   December 19, 2007
This show will blow your mind, you will never see a show this good on any of the big networks like NBC or ABC, the actors, storylines, twists and turns keep you glued to the screen.

The season finale will not disappoint or confuse you like many other shows do, all important questions asked, only one question "how could season 2 top that?" well season 2 is just as good thats all I'll say about that.

Region 2 DVD is long overdue and I guess once it's shown on ITV, it'll finally be released.

5 out of 5 stars Easily the best programme on tv at the moment..!   December 10, 2007
Dexter is fantastic! The whole show, centred around a serial killer working in forensics who kills 'bad people' seriously makes you fall in love!

The plot is clever and exciting; the season finale was absolutely fantastic, and a great wrap up of a brilliant show.

The characters are believable and funny, and if you're anything like me, you'll watch the whole series in 2 days!!

Seriously, this is an amazing programme that has to be watched.

5 out of 5 stars Something that actually feels new and interesting   November 14, 2007

A new twist on the crime drama - form start to finish it's hypnotic. Because the story is allowed to unfold through the full 12 episodes there is enough time to develop the charactors and the plot. All the science of CSI, the procedure of Law and Order but with a dark dark humour running underneath. So nice to have a central charactor who is so dis interested in People , emotions, sex and all the usual trappings of US Drama - he's just your friendly neighbourhood serial killer.

4 out of 5 stars Miami slice   November 7, 2007

Instead of disappearing as so many actors do after a hit series, Michael C. Hall has reappeared after his excellent work as David Fisher in 'Six feet under' to play the title character in this new series.
The set-up sounds as daft as they come, psycho-killer Dexter works as a pathologist for the Miami police dept. during the day while at night he stalks the cities monsters & exacts his own awful personal execution.
At first this role is completely unsympathetic but this grows on you & unbelievably so does Dexter himself! At first it's just him offing the bad guys but pretty soon things settle down & the whole city gets caught up in a series of gruesome killings carried out by a new serial killer.
As things progress Dexter's past is slowly revealed, his relationship with his sister, girlfriend & colleagues,(one of whom knows that there's something 'not right' about Dexter),. This single case then becomes the focus of the series until an ending that reveals much & is far braver than most. It doesn't all end cosy & huge problems lurk on the horizon.
Hall is superb with a top class mixture of emotionless & then childlike. The other characters may have to play second fiddle to such a huge idea but all involved give great performances & there is much depth to be had from their characters.
As well as a one off chracter arc & idea Dexter also pushes boundaries when it comes to adult content. The language is harsh & the violence exceeds anything I can think of on TV.
This is not for those of a quieter disposition but if you have the guts then put any doubts to one side & give this a try. You are unlikely to have seen another series like this & shows ability to surprise is refreshing.
The extras are a bit ho-hum but at least it has some. Picture is OK but not top grade while the sound is better with some well centered dialogue & nice subtle rear effects.
Dexter is a surprising,if blood spattered, change from the usual police drama & offers the viewer gripping drama supported by top notch performances. If you're after something different then have a stab at this.
