| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review There can be few people who have not experienced the luxurious, dark and fantastical The Hobbit, and this highly acclaimed BBC Radio 4 adaptation of the classic book, first broadcast in 1968, will certainly please appreciative Tolkien fans and may well tempt reluctant readers towards the original books. As the hero of the tale, Bilbo Baggins, is thrust into the biggest adventure of his life he is guided by Gandalf the Wizard and a company of dwarves on their mission to destroy Smaug the Magnificent. This tremendous journey is brought vividly to life in this superb adaptation, evoking as it does every ounce of Tolkien's true magic with its rich interpretation of the characters who inhabit the magical other-world that has captured the imaginations of readers of all ages for generations. --Susan Harrison

A superb adaption! April 22, 2001 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I first listened to this adaption after reading the hobbit and buying the graphic novel- and it's the 100% accurate portrayal of bilbo's adventures! excellent cast, listen to it and look at the david wenzel comic book at the same time - you'll see what i mean! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! A++
Excellent Listening for all the family April 26, 2000 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
This excellent BBC Radio Four dramatisation keep our whole family mesmerised from Clais to the Spanish Boarder. It really is a fabulous production. We had listened to a single voice reader before, I think it was Lovejoy, no comparison with the full drama of this one, just wait until you hear the actor who is Gollum. We have bought the BBC Lord of the Rings now ready for our next holiday.
