Typical BBC October 31, 1999 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The BBC has always been famous for the excellence of their products, whether radio or television (witness "The Goon Show" or the Joan Hickson "Miss Marple" series (since we're on the subject here)). This adaptation of "A Caribbean Mystery" is no letdown. The characters are excellent - from June Whitfield's Jane Marple to Windsor Davies' Major Palgrave to the romantic quartet of the Hillingdon-Dysons to the hotel manager and his neurotic wife. While the detection is mainly questioning about personal relationships, the story is well done (though the original novel bears more of a resemblance to an expanded short-story than a full novel), with excellent characteristics against a background of crickets and thunder. Highly recommended.
