Brown rat finds Love August 10, 2003 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
"That Pesky Rat" is simply one of the funniest children's books I have read in ages - the story of a brown rat who lives in a bin but longs to be a pet with a name. The cameo appearances of his friends who have made it as pets (such as Pierre the Chinchilla who lives a glamourous life with Madame Fifi) are hysterical, and the finale of the book is a happy ending with a very funny twist! This is one book I won't mind reading to my children dozens of times - the illustrations are stylish and adults can enjoy the humour as much as (or even more than)the kids can!
Another fantastic book full of funny pictures and wit June 10, 2002 24 out of 25 found this review helpful
Thoroughly enjoyable, this book can work at many levels- a good laugh, a thought for all the pets out there, and a chance to reflect on the choices we can all make. Then there's the wonderful montages and drawings that make the book a pleasure for the eyes, one of my favourites being where the rat is thinking about how he hates to be bored... I bought this as a supply teacher- it could form the basis of so many lessons and for so many age levels, and so many parts of the curriculum, but mainly for myself! The main plot is a pesky rat who would like his own name, and to be someone's pet above all, even if it means having to wear a funny jumper. This is well worth paying hard back price for!
