french success at only 4.50 March 16, 2008 This book has really helped me in my study of french and makes revision much easier. Grammar points are explained simply, and this is what lets you make up your own sentences and get the top marks. the revision questions at the end of each section reinforce what you have learned and let you know what you need to go back over. all this at a reasonable price, definately worth the money.
CGP GCSE French January 24, 2004 18 out of 20 found this review helpful
I think that this book is helpful for the very basic uses such as low level vocab and sentences. However, it doesn't explain the grammar to the more complex sentences, so it is very difficult to use the information in your own work. However, it is brightly coloured with pretty pictures to sustain your interest for a bit longer. I find this is just to cover up for the lack of information given. The only real use I found for this book was if you were writing about a very specific topic, it could help to give a few sentences that could be included. Also some of the topics can be useful for preperation for oral exams, such as lost property. Overall, I do not think that this book is worth buying, becuase although it is cheap there are better quality revision guides around, especially if you are aiming for the higher grades.
An averagely helpful book April 7, 2002 9 out of 17 found this review helpful
Although this book was helpful in the learning and understanding of many phrases, I felt that to really help one revise GCSE it needed to give the student more space to make up their own sentances and to show how things were constructed more, rather that just dishing out phrases without the key points explained.
Great book! August 13, 2001 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
i thought this book was brilliant! it covers various topics e.g. shopping, transport, clothes etc. the book consists of 10 chapters- this may seem like a lot but the chapters are really short(except chapter 10). i've finished using this book and i can say that french has never been easier! there was one thing about this book that really annoyed me and that was the amount of vocabulary you have to learn. but it was well worth the hassle as most of the words i'd learnt came up in the exam. i would recommend this book to anyone- be assured that you'll gain something out of revising from this book.
Looking to pass French? May 3, 2001 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
This book is a must if you want to pass French for GSCE's. In the beginning there was tenses and that was easy and clear to understand with good examples. This included tenses like past, perfect, imperfect, future and pluperfect tense, which really helps to get marks in the French exams. The rest of the books is split up into sections like sport, transport etc. which also helps in oral exams. The whole book is clear to read and understand and this book really helps to revise and take in the information. Sadly the language and graphics are really quite patronizing for age range it is targeted at. However it spells out the clear facts and that's what counts in the end.
