Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The diversity of Zakk Wylde   September 16, 2005
Whatever your prefered genre of music, you will love this album. As a metal fan, I was surprised at how quickly I was hooked by it - i.e. the very first listen! Zakk Wylde is usually associated with heavier stuff like Black Label Society, Ozzy etc but Book of Shadows proves that he is a man for all styles!! Take away his distortion and give him an acoustic guitar and he will blow your mind. Add to that great piano, harmonica and all the rest, and you have one of the best albums ever written. Why this is'nt a household name is beyond me, everyone should own it.

5 out of 5 stars Best album ever   December 22, 2004

....Well one of. To me this is the perfect album. Im a avid metal fan, mainly death metal, but this album just is breathtaking. Out of the 200-250 or so albums i own, this is one of my all time fav's. This is Zakk's masterpiece, there's songs that have a southern rock feel, like pride and glory, and really soft thought provoking ballad's with some amazing vocals, and zakk's trademark lead licks. Everything just fits, enough said, buy it!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Pretty darn good   March 26, 2004

You should know by now that this contains 'soft' songs which are mainly acoustic guitar and piano driven. Having said that, Zakk's electric guitar and those trademark pinch harmonics are never too far away and the majority of the songs contain an incendiary electric guitar solo of some sort. This album is definately a grower and for the most part is very good indeed. My only gripes (as always) are with his lyrics which are hardly poetry but to be fair that's not what the man's about. If you liked the softer songs on Pride and Glory then this is definately for you.

Although it's been likened to Alice In Chains' acoustic EPs 'Jar Of Flies' and 'Sap' I personally feel this album does not quite have the quality and emotion of those. However, it's still a VERY good album and highly reccommended for any Zakk fan. I especially love the track 'Road Back Home' which has become one of my ALL time favourites by ANY artist.

Incidently, his new album, Hangover Music Vol VI, which is coming out in April '04 is going to be similar in style to this and I can't wait for it.

5 out of 5 stars Zakk has hit the mark yet again.   April 2, 2001

Now you probably think that anyone who raves this much about an album is either sad, out of his box, or just hasn't got a clue. Normally I would agree with you but not this time. This man truly is amazing, buy the album, don't think about it just do it. If you are looking in this genre you must be tempted, go with your instincts this is a beaut. And while your at it, get all of his other work as well....Pride and glory, Black Label Society the lot. You will not regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Zakk goes acoustic (with occasional beefy electric riffs)   November 5, 2000

How much talent can one guy have? And how many bands can he be in at the same time (four?). This is a laid-back easy to listen to album. Not southern style like Pride & Glory, but brilliant all the same. I must listen to this every day. Highly recommended.
