20 Years of Dischord: CD+Book Set

I'm sure the vast majority of the people who buy this box-set will already know most of the bands, but to anyone who doesn't the first cd is the just about the very best hardcore u can get from my favourite band (Minor Threat)and others like State of Alert, Government Issue, Faith and Void. Also mixed in with this is some of the early 'emo' and unusual bands who have been on the label over the years.

Disc Two has all the main post-hardcore bands on, the most famous of them being Fugazi (if u want a sample of Fugazi, i would recommend 'Argument'). Also it has a fantastic bagpiped based song!

Disc Three is a collection of rare and unreleased (and live) songs from the bands.

All in all this is a superb compilation album, that sums Dischord up, cheap, local, true to its founding beliefs and still producing some of the best music around. And at 70 songs for this price u cant go wrong!!!

20 Years Of Dischord contains one song each by every band that had been on Dischord in the label's first twenty years(so unfortunately there is no room for Black Eyes) plus an extra disc of rarities.This acts as a great introduction as number of great bands-Minor Threat,Scream,The Make-Up,Embrace,etc,and contains the ultimate lost classic-Shudder To Think's Red House,which pisses all over today's so-called 'emo' bands from a great height.

if you was in to punk from day one then you should know all those early bands on dischord,S.O.A.,minor threat, teen idols and goverment issue to name a few.minor threat are legends but for me the S.O.A.material was the best stuff ever on dischord,a great few first years at dischord then started bringing stuff out that really let it down.

These are the facts: Over 70 tracks spanning 20 years of DC punk, some you may like and some you will not. But as it comes in at about 25p per track its a damn site cheaper than your average jukebox.
If you are a real punk you will already have heard most of these bands anyway. If you are new to punk - live dangerously and just buy it.
I have been a fan (of most) DC bands since the mid 80s and I did not get into them by reading reviews. Reviews will NEVER replace your own ears (bit silly as this is a sort of review / recommendation really) just buy it. You will not regret it.

Well, there are 3 discs crammed fulla songs and a book documenting all the bands on dischord over the last 20 years. Value for money! Disc 1 is lots of Hardcore punk leading to the start of posthardcore (or jazzcore as i like to call it.) Disc 2 has all the sorta off kilter post hardcore bands like Jawbox and Fugazi on, and disc 3 has lots of rareties and B-sides. My favourite song is 0n disc 3 - Shudder to Think "Drop Dead, Don't Blink". There are about 72 songs, buy it you're bound to like at least one of em!!! Thats what I say.
