We have nearly all of Martin Jarvis's brilliant Just William audio books, they are all just perfect for those long car journeys. This one is very poor simply because they do not seem to have used Richmal Crompton's original stories. Martin Jarvis for some strange reason also reads them all, as William, in the first person, so there are none of his usual very funny characterisations of other people in the stories. A real let down and I'm amazed that they were allowed to use Richmal Crompton's name on the cover.

Although I have only heard the first of these items (Home for the Holidays) I feel I must write this review to offer some balance to the blasting given by the other reviewer. I thought 'Home for the Holidays' was absolutely hilarious, and is my favourite of this magnificent range of audio works. As it is narrated in the first person, it is a shift from other Just William audiobooks. However, it is read superbly by Martin Jarvis, who really does make you believe that he IS William Brown. I am delighted to find that this is on offer in CD, and will be upgrading from my almost worn-out cassette!

If you like Just William- Don't buy this. I bought it for a long car journey as both kids and myself are huge fans- but we turned it off after the first story. It's a horrible paraphrased version of the stories narrated in the first person by Martin Jarvis and is too dreadful for words. It may be unabridged but it certainly isn't the original. Why did they have to ruin the inimitable style of Richmal Crompton by doing this? Stick to the BBC versions (also read by Martin Jarvis) which are brilliant and, though abridged, retain the original style and humor
