4 out of 5 stars Another Classic, whether you like it or not   April 21, 2008

This gets four stars because my daughter and youngest son like it, not because I like it. With the success of The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom it seems that Donaldson can do no wrong, and it is almost heresy to say that you are not quite keen. I however, as a parent, am not quite keen.

For me the rhymes, which are sloppy and squashed to fit the story, totally spoil what would otherwise be delightful books. I hate reading them aloud to the children. I can however see that my kids love them, and part of the enduring appeal is the rhyme, so what can you do? They're in charge.

The illustrations are great, clear, but with enough going on to keep them busy spotting new things with every read. They're bright and attractive to small eyes and the whole thing is nicely laid out. The story is charming and has just enough mischief in it not to make it saccharine and annoying. Perfect for children, not so good for grownups.

5 out of 5 stars Tiddler? Tiddler? Tiddler's late!   April 21, 2008
Such a brilliant book, don't hesitate, just get it or find it in the library. A great way of learning all the different, slightly more obscure fish names eg Miss 'Skate' and little Johnny Dory as well as the plaice ('who recognised his face!') and the various other colourful sea creatures Tiddler comes across on his adventures. One of my favourites to read aloud - my children (5 and 3)love it.

4 out of 5 stars Finding Tiddler   February 26, 2008
A big hit with my 3 year old who is a huge 'Nemo' fan. The story is spookily similar in many ways to the plot of the Disney film. Great illustrations as usual by Axel S and fun rhymes to recite and repeat by Julia Donaldson.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic book   February 6, 2008

This book is absolutely brilliant. Even our daugther who is only four month old loves looking at the pictures and will happily listen to the whole book in one go. She keeps touching the pictures and follows our finges when we point things out to her.
I would recommend this book to every parent as it makes storytime with your little one loads of fun.

5 out of 5 stars Yes, Miss Skate!   January 31, 2008

Tiddler is wonderful... my daughter (who is 3) is always happy to hear this lovely tale of a small fish with a big imagination. She loves saying "yes, miss skate" and pointing out the Gruffalo fish that appears half way through! Combined with a squash and a squeeze and charlie cooks favourite book, reading at bedtime is just as enjoyable for me as it is for her
