Alan Melville - Taxation (FA 2004 edition) August 25, 2004 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have bought Alan Melville's excellent book over the last several years. I am a lecturer in tax on professional courses at the University of Gloucestershire and always recommend the book to my students as a comprehensive and well written general reference for taxation students. The writing is clear and understandable and there are plenty of worked examples to illustrate the areas covered.Although it may appear expensive if you can only afford one general text this should be the one. As a practicing accountant it also comes in useful for those tricky client areas too!
taxation written in english!! October 24, 2003 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this book as taxation was a major subject in my degree course. I found taxation classes very demanding and confusing ans so i used this book a lot out of class to decode my lecture notes. I found this particular taxation book the easiest for me to understand. It helped me a lot to understand the subject in a deeper sense. good, easy to understand and very helpful. a taxation book thats written in english!!!!

Fantastic user friendly book September 18, 2001 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Taxation by Alan Melville is one of the greatest tax books I have come across. The wording used in the text makes concepts easy to grasp. Beginning at a very basic level it is useful to those with little or no knowledge of tax, building on chapters to explain more complex issues further on. It includes nearly all aspects of both personal tax and business tax. The examples used in each of the chapters are very simple but effective in explaining concepts. I have tried to think of any bad points about the text and failed. Apart from the constant change in the finance act which means that some elements of the text are subject to change, becoming outdated. This book would be useful for those studying ACCA 2.3 or AAT, alongside the course text. Providing the foundation for any advanced study of tax. As well as a useful reference.
Good book to be used for reference September 18, 2001 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I started using this book when I was in University learning taxation and I highly recommend it to everyone wanting to learn more about the UK Taxation. It has examples and covers a wide range of topics i.e. Income Tax, Corporation Tax, Capital Gains Tax and many more topics, and for the price that you pay it is worth every penny. I still use this book daily in my job as an accountant.
