Not sure about this one.... July 18, 2008 I always feel with any book of this sort that I really want to get to know the author a little better - and maybe even like them more. This booky wooky left me cold. I was never a huge fan of Mr Brand - and really wanted to like him because I can see what an incredibly talented man he is. But what a waste - what a totaly self destructive chap he is - even though he knows he is. His word work was not as I expected, very limited given his mastery of it on stage - although whether he felt this was as much as his audience could cope with, I'm not sure. And then to slip in at the end of the book that he was perhaps bi-polar....I think I kind of worked that out in chapter two - but then I do work in mental health. Sorry Russell, sort it out lad.
Surprisingly Page Turnable July 18, 2008 I've never been a massive fan of Russell Brand. In small doses he can be funny but sustained attempts to view his stuff have driven me slightly mental. He is however, never dull and rather intriguing, which is why I ended up reading his book.
It is well written and articulate. He writes like he speaks which I thought might be a problem but it turned out not to be. I think that not having to see his hair on every page helped a lot. He has all the charm and egotism of a typical addict and his intelligence and the amount of thought he has put into analysing himself makes it a real page turner of a book.
ARTICULATE, HONEST, ARTISTIC July 7, 2008 Russel Brand in exceptionally inteligent with a way with words that only strengthens his talent and all round performing arts genius. Many of his inspirations are of an ecentric nature as is Russell. He's proven he can present, act, do stand up and now write. An interesting, over sexed and over drugged entrance this fella has had. Brilliant book, even if he's a man you think you don't like. His story is fascinating and can't be ignored as anything short of that.
Intelligent, explicit and honest June 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
To be fair, I wasn't a huge fan of Russell Brand before I read his "Booky Wook" - I just found him annoying.
However "Booky Wook" is Russell's story of where he came from and his journey to where he is today. Honest, explicit and intelligently written, "Booky Wook" shares the ups, downs and general chaos from his life so far with the closing chapter providing a teaser that more is still to come.
Very readable, I would recommend this book to Brand fans (if they haven't read it already) and to the non Brand fans who may fancy a delve into the world of Brand.
Surprisingly very good June 27, 2008 I thought I'd hate this book as I've always thought Russel Brand to be a bit of a prat but I have been proved wrong. This book is brilliant. His stories are hilarious, touching, cringeworthy, honest and interesting. He is refreshingly frank about his addictions and in no way glamourises them. He is extremely articulate and is obviously a very intelligent person who doesn't take himself too seriously and is able to laugh at himself. It makes a pleasant change to read an autobiography by somebody who is not just entertaining but who has a talent for writing. My opinion of Russel Brand has now completely changed.
