More balanced and less self-obsessed account February 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have read both of these books now and although Russell has a unique style of his own, I couldn't help feeling that the first biography by Tanith Carey probably told a more well-rounded, more balanced view of the Russell Brand myth. Russell covers all the same events first described by this very thoroughly researched biography. But its with an air of self-obsession that sometimes makes you wonder how much is word-play and fantasy and how much is the truth. By speaking to alot of different sources first hand the Carey book provides an interesting parallel insight into Russell's world and what Russell was really like to the people around him. It's a good reminder that we shouldn't always take the word of a celebrity as God's Truth and that the unauthorised biog also has its place.
Read 'My Booky Wook' rather than this. February 2, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The majority of this book is entirely the same as Russell Brand's autobiography but not as well written. There is a smidgen of different information towards that end from friends and acquaintances, but it's not really worth the effort when you can read a far more humourous, eloquent book by the man himself.
As good as Russell's own book December 9, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Although Russell has now written his own book - this is still a really interesting book for the shelf of any true Brand fan. Russell's was frank but this book also speaks to all the people around him at the time and gives a much more rounded view of what Russell was like at his worst as well as at his best and shows how lucky he was to still have a career. No autobiog is really objective which is why this fills out the whole picture. I have read the Carey book three times now - and reading it together with Russell's make me feel like I finally know the man.
A book to give you hope xxxx excellent July 6, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I read this book a few weeks ago, when it came out first. Russell Brand is what I would call a real star with Talent and a heart. This book shows you the real man, the lost boy who was always searching for somthing he had lost, and to block out the pain like so many people he would turn to other substances. He is a real inspiration and shows how you can turn you 're life around. After all if we don't suffer sadness and tears of pain in our lives, how would we ever be able to enjoy and appreciate the laughs and loves that follow.. He does a lot of work for charity and he has been given the gift and talent to make people laugh. He has a fantastic relationship with his mother and it really shines in the book...he just acts and speaks as he thinks. The book has really funny parts, but also can bring you to tears..His relationship with his father when he was a child was awful, the book has touched my heart.I just hope he stays as lovely as he is, this book is a great read.
Do you want to know the real Russell?-Read this book May 16, 2007 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
As you start reading the book you notice it's not the usual autobiography,it's something different. The book is actually written by someone else.
Throughout reading the book you build up a completely different picture from the tabloids about a men who is strugguling with his own fears, with his personal demons. It show's the real Russell who is trying to overcome his addictions and become the person that he really wants to be...
I really liked the book. It's so honest, frank and very funny. I recommend it to everyone.Well worth reading.
