Shooting Star! September 6, 2004 33 out of 33 found this review helpful
A terrific book. Fallen Stars is essential for anyone interested in British cinema, particularly in the sixties and seventies. Focusing on the decline and fall of a score of British film stars, Upton not only presents gripping accounts of their final years but also a fascinating portrait of the post-war UK cinema industry in general. The book's in-depth treatment of a handful of obscure and semi-forgotten faces - Stanley Baker, Ian Hendry, Vivien Merchant, David Rappaport - is particularly valuable. Entertaining and highly readable.
