Genuis of our times November 2, 2007 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I skived off work early to get back home to watch this new Prince Dvd and why not! its a Friday eh?, it arrived this morning and I would have took it to work but there you go, you have to admit that Prince is one of the true legends of real non bubble gum music these days and also a man of some mystery, well to me, so its great to have many insights into the man behind many of the albums that I and most people have. He clearly shows that he is a very sussed person not just with the music but in his business dealings, private life and controlling his destiny, the interviews show a side of the man that I didnt really reaslise existed, articulate as well as quite unfazzed by the star that he is.
I'd recommend this Dvd for anyone wanting simply to know more about him, by the way his wife or X wife is quite amazing also!!

While I can understand that you might feel disillusioned if you bought a Prince Interview DVD and then realised that you didn't like Prince the person, I don't think that's really a reflection on the DVD itself!
The main thing I'll note about this DVD is that whilst 120 minutes doesn't sound that long, two hours of interviews seems to last forever. I'm saying this in a good way as this DVD is exceptionally cheap and seems to provide a whole heap of quality material.
I say quality material because it is; the interviews are of a great length, there are 9 or 10 on this disc, so that makes them around 10-15 minutes each, the quality of image and sound is great (well, as good as you expect from an unofficial release, but I've seen much, much worse before!) and across the course of the interviews you feel like you get a real insight into a section of the life of "the artist".
Most of the content is from the mid-1990s; all in fact except from the first interview which is much earlier. I would particularly recommend this disc to those who have an interest for Prince around the time that he gave up that name as a lot of addresses the Warner situation and his new independent label and distribution.
Overall, an insightful and interesting watch. It even added quite a few new details that I had not known before and gave a new level of empathy into an artist who I had only really READ about before, never SEEN.
He speaks! November 1, 2007 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
WARNING - You may be disillusioned!!! Prince and his music have kept me captivated since the mid 1980's. I love most of his music and have seen Prince live many, many times. However, I seem to have avoided seeing him speak publicly - seeing only maybe a couple of interviews and a couple more acceptance speeches over the years. So, I was excited at the prospect of 2 hours or so of insight into the man himself. Apart from the earliest interview, Prince speaks eloquently, and interestingly and to begin with I watched in fascination, but as the interviews rolled on, I began to feel disappointed, and I realise now that I don't want to 'know' Prince the person, but just want to carry on being swept along with his music and `image' for ever more.
