Excellent Overview of the early Industrial Revolution March 21, 2008

It is amazing to think that this book has its origins in TS Ashton's 1948 book of the same name. It remains an excellent read - fascinating and elegantly written. It is a great introduction to the industrial revolution in the UK, though its thin size means it only provides an overview with little detail. The book also ends at 1830 meaning that the railway age, the steel industry, shipbuilding and many other developments of the later industrial revolution are missed. It's a great starter text though.
