a bit different March 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really like these cards. Yes, they have some unusual animals such as xolo, urchin and quetzal but they're very attractive and fun. We teach children duck, bird, parrot etc. as different types of birds so why not let them know alligator and crocodile?
As for unrealistic colours, how many books show animals in different colours, what about Elmer? Have you ever seen a multi-coloured elelphant? No, but it doesn't matter!
Poorly thought out November 15, 2007 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
When children learn they need simplicity and clarity. These cards are anything but. For example the card for letter "a" is an alligator which most children will recognize as a crocodile (How many adults know the difference? Try explaining this to a 3 year old!). The drawing for letter "x" is a "xolo". Hands up if you know what that is. While the animal drawings are "funky" they are confusing and misleading. For example the Hippo is blue, the kangaroo red, and the duck is yellow. Seen any yellow ducks lately? Don't waste your money on these - There are much clearer and instructive cards available for a much cheaper price.
