Monteverdi Madrigal Enthusiasts Everywhere January 7, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the best representation of Monteverdi's Music available. Its focus is his madrigals, performed chamber style, one voice per part so that you can really get to grips with the counterpoint; look at the performers lips and see how the parts fit together. The form of the dvd presents Monteverdi's life as a documentary, broken up by performances from madrigal book four mainly. The quality of the performance is stuning, recorded at the Palatzo Te in Mantua where Monteverdi was patronised! Its one of those dvds that you find yourself watching over and over and still coming back for more. Featuring Emma Kirkby, need I say more...
