Dawson's Creek is, first and foremost, one of the defining shows about teen angst and complicated teenage relationships. The first two seasons were the classic ones, as Dawson oscillates in his affections between beautiful Jen and his best friend Joey and manages to fall entirely between two stools. This is a show in which indecision and failure to commit is always going to lead to nothing good, however uncertain the prospects of commitment. Michelle Williams as Jen and Katie Holmes as Joey provide the show with its emotional centre of quirky intensity. James Van Der Beek as the essentially unreliable Dawson provides good looks and a hang-dog complexity of feeling to the mix, while Joshua Jackson as his sidekick Pacey provides both reliable comic relief and a sense of more depth to come in the show's later seasons. The "Best of Season 2" provides good examples of what the show does best. Here we see the brief Joey-Dawson relationship in "The Kiss" and its aftermath in "His Leading Lady", where Dawson directs Rachael Lee Cook as Devon in a movie script based sufficiently closely on earlier episodes that she reprises Joey's actual lines. Dawson's Creek is essential teen soap, savvy enough in its post-modern edge to play well with self-parody and intertextuality.--Roz Kaveney

BUY THIS IF YOU LOVE DAWSON'S CREEK August 15, 2001

OK, so some people don't think these are the best two episodes, but I love the video. That's because season 2 was the season when I started watching DC - and I didn't see all of the episodes. This video has two episodes I'd never seen before, and they're great like all DC episodes. 'The Kiss' is Dawson and Joey's first date and contains the famous swing scene. 'His Leading Lady' has two great guest stars and a whole load of teen angst. As there's no Dawson's Creek box sets and if you don't have all the episodes taped yourself, you'd be mad to miss this!

I personally don't think these 2 episodes are the best of season 2 but any video containing episodes of Dawson's Creek deserves 5 stars. I think the episodes "The Dance" where Joey kisses Jack and Dawson punches him at the dance and Pacey and Andie get together at the Docks, also "The All-Nighter"- the episode where they all go round to Chris's (Jason Behr) house to study and end up finding out a lot more about each other would certainly improve this video for me, and if they'd decided to add on an extra episode the one with Dawson's birthday and he and Andie get drunk would be perfect, that episode is just hilarious. Overall anyone who calls themselves a hardcore fan of Dawson's should own this video and columbia bring out the full seasons on video, people will buy them!

Two fantastic episodes from DC,shown without ad breaks, puerile presenters or T4 logos! Though Katie Holmes makes me swoon, I recovered long enough to appreciate the good script, dialogue and things I wish I had said in my teens! Recommended (except why not issue episodes in sequence instead of best of"?

Classic Dawson's - this video is great even if you haven't seen the first one. Teen angst and beautiful settings make it a delight to watch. Not to mention that Joshua Jackson is in it! Great for girly nights in.
