Amazon.co.uk Review Somewhere between the sharp satire of Election and the rich human comedy of You Can Count On Me lies Juno, a sardonic but ultimately compassionate story of a pregnant teenage girl who wants to give her baby up for adoption. Social misfit Juno (Ellen Page, Hard Candy, X-Men: The Last Stand) protects herself with a caustic wit, but when she gets pregnant by her friend Paulie (Michael Cera, Superbad), Juno finds herself unwilling to terminate the pregnancy. When she chooses a couple who place a classified ad looking to adopt, Juno gets drawn further into their lives than she anticipated. But Juno is much more than its plot; the stylised dialogue (by screenwriter Diablo Cody) seems forced at first, but soon creates a richly textured world, greatly aided by superb performances by Page, Cera, Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman as the prospective parents, and J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man) and Allison Janney as Juno's father and stepmother. Director Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking) deftly keeps the movie from slipping into easy, shallow sarcasm or foundering in sentimentality. The result is smarter and funnier than you might expect from the subject matter, and warmer and more touching than you might expect from the cocky attitude. Page's performance is deceptively simple; she never asks the audience to love her, yet she effortlessly carries a movie in which she's in almost every scene. That's star power. -- Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com

teenagers please view July 25, 2008 Realistic tale of an unexpected pregnancy, an adoption and the twists and turns along the way. Juno seems psychologically older than her parents, and the adoptive parents too. She is played extremely successfully by Ellen Page. The developing relationship bteween her and the potential adoptive father is an interesting and completely believable twist. It deserved the screenplay Oscar and the nominations too. A very simple story and none the worse for that - great way to spend a couple of hours with your teenagers!
Overrated July 25, 2008 This is yet another faux-indie movie (such as Broken Flowers) that got a lot of good press but turns out to be a dud. Ellen Page is a good actress, but her character and her dialogue are far too affected to be realistic. You just don't get the sense that she would exist in real life. People don't have conversations like they do in this movie. Okay, so it's only a movie, but the film hinges on her decision to have the baby. Sorry, but I don't believe she wouldn't have gone through with the abortion. Likewise, the relationship she forges with the Jason Bateman character is unrealistic, and the wife played by Jennifer Garner doesn't even feel like she's in the movie, she is so under-written.
JK Simmons (who was excellent as the menacing Schillinger in Oz) is wasted, as are Alison Janney and Michael Cera. A few laughs were to be had, but this is indie-by-numbers. In fact, it's not even an "indie" movie.
More enjoyable than I thought it would be... July 19, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
..mostly due to Ellen Page's great kooky performance. It's a bit different from your average American teenage film and I think I prefer this side of America to the main-stream alternative. It's an unashamedly feel-good flick and one you can watch and enjoy with your girl friends. I'm not saying that men wouldn't like it, but lets just say, there's not much in the way of action, cars or nudity. If you're a man that likes an easy-to-watch film with a little bit of eccentricity to it,however, then maybe you'll enjoy this too.
Boring Film July 18, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I watched Juno last week and was expecting it to be amazing, funnier than knocked up which i enjoyed but i was very dissapointed. It wasnt very funny, abit airy fairy with stupid singing and the characters were abit bland and didnt have much passion especially bleeker he was really dull in this film. When id finished watching it i was happy to turn it off, i would of turned it of sooner but my boyfriend actually enjoyed it so who knows, its alright i wouldnt watch it again but it was okay ive seen worse but then again ive seen alot better.
Id recommend waiting untill its on sky/TV and watching it for free.
Made out its something good, which i didnt think it was. July 14, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Being good reviewed in the papers, me and my friends went to see this at the cinemas. I had read that it was amazing, really sad, funny & entertaining.
But having watching this film, i found it dull and boring, nothing like the reviews i had read about..
I would watch it if it was for nothing.. But i wouldnt pay for this film at all, i dont know what all the big fuss is about, because personally i found it a bad movie.
But i suppose everybody has their own opinions..
Hope this helps x
