5 out of 5 stars 270 minutes of bliss   May 14, 2008

If you're an aspiring guitarist, these guys will show you just how it's done. A stunning lineup that covers brilliant old stagers like Hubert Sumlin, Buddy Guy, BB King (he's 81 and still rockin') right through to new talents like Derek Trucks, John Mayer, Doyle Bramhall. And holding it all together with an exceptional set, Eric himself. Great photography, good sound quality and around four and a half hours of crowd pleasing music.

My high spots: Jeff Beck (I still don't know what his hands are doing despite the closeups) with a simply phenomenal young bassist. The consistently excellent Robert Cray. Susan Tedeschi whose singing and guitar solos have a fabulous raw quality that really touches the spot. And Stevie Winwood who demonstrates yet again what a versatile musician he is with a rip-your-head-off solo in "Dear Mr Fantasy"

My low spots: The link man, the actor Bill Murray, who says nothing useful and persists in saying it three times throughout. Tedious. Oh, and the absence of Joe Walsh who added so much to the 2004 Crossroads concert.

Guitar lovers, this should be at the core of your DVD collection.

4 out of 5 stars Blink and you'll miss Tab Benoit...   April 4, 2008

The previous dvd was more varied and easier to view. There is too much sycophancy toward Eric from the other artists here and this detracts from repeat viewings. The 'extras' shows snippet from the guitar village - why not more of this? Only a minute or so of the amazing tab benoit. Shame.
Still, the good bits are good indeed ( Jeff Beck, Susan Tedeschi)even if the bad bits are puzzling ( the show finale is more of a show anti-climax). As always there aren't many really good blues dvd's out there so i would still recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars Ok - but could easily have been a single quality disc   February 19, 2008

I like blues too much to spend any time slagging it off so i am just going to focus on the good bits - and they are good - disc one must hear Susan Tedeschi with Dereck Trucks Band - the next Bonny Rait an amazing performance - sadly there are a few other ok tracks notably the Albert Lee and John McLaughlin bits but the rest is really dull (my all time hero Johnny Winter no!!!!); second disc Clapton steps, up great stuff with Tell the Truth, exceptional performances with Steve Winwood and Los Lobos and Buddy Guy is always worth seeing. So in the end maybe 5 to six really good performances and the rest is just filler in my humble opinion. There was not enough variety on this dvd - compared with 2 years before - which i would rate as a 5/5 compulsory ownership if you loved the first crossroads then you may like the second one - but given its for charity - you should buy it anyway just for the performances outlined above and help heal those in need.

3 out of 5 stars Great audio, shame about the video...   February 6, 2008
I'll leave others to comment on the musical content, but there's something not quite right about the picture on this DVD, at least with my disc on my DVD player. The motion looks a tad rough and choppy. The DVD *is* NTSC format, but that doesn't usually cause this particular problem. Also the camera work isn't as refined as it was on the 2004 concert DVD.

Rather disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Great   January 23, 2008
Clapton playing with Winwood is a must see in this concert. The best purchase i've made so far this year
