Intelligent Design theory propaganda masquerading as a science documentary. If you want to really learn something about the world I suggest you look elsewhere.
Will our creator ever return? January 3, 2007 7 out of 22 found this review helpful
Amazed, Owe struck, Inspired, that's all very nice to read these favourable reviews. But whats the next step, will anybody be so moved by the facts, that they now look for the answers to the oldest questions. Those interviewed in the Privileged Planet held back from saying who they believe the awsome designer/creator of this beatiful planet is. Why? it's got to the point no one dare say GOD. All i can say to advice you in your search is dont read the Bible on your own, you will be very frustrated, the Bible is inspired by God writen in such a way sacred secrets are not revealed to all. No there is no code, only Divine light Gods holy spirit. The only way to understand the scriptures, apply for a free home bible study with Jehovahs Witnesses. Yes its free! www.watchtower.org is the only offical site. when you have taken advantage of the free home bible study, make your own mind up, believe me it's amazing to learn things that man has only just discovered well in the last few hundred years was writen in the bible at least 2000 years ago. Why are we here? How come trees and plants live longer than humans? Did our creator simply create us for nothing? Will Armagedon realy distroy only the wicked?
A Rare and highly relevant Treasure December 8, 2006 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Ok, well let me start by saying this Review is about more than the production quality or the quantity of information you get on this DVD.
Alot of the things they bring up in this DVD are things i was already aware about from causual documentary watching. Also the new information although wonderful and i have to say un-usual in the sense that not many people seem to give it much attention is not something thats so radical as to shock me, i was kind of thinking "its about time we noticed these basic truths", so why the 5 stars?
In my experience it's a rare case in life, that you will read, see, or listen to a person or group of persons and come away with a breath taking new view on your surroundings, and a view that is not only interesting but also confirms its self to you through your own observation.
To make this simple what im saying is alot of presentations im used to seeing will leave you feeling like there is no sense to anything and your simply an ape in-capabe of making an observation of any use to you or of any validility. After all, if you dont have a PhD why are even thinking in the first place? thats only for very clever people with long white beards surely.
But this presentation (and this is not the only one but they are rare) does open your eyes to the fact that just because something is obvious and can be understood by the very simple of us doesnt rule it out as a good and valid observation.
I have long suspected a meaning and a purpose to our world and universe, in my mind all i had to do was look around and i would notice incredible coincidences that make living possible, im sure if you are inclined to think that way you too would inadvertently notice everyday many many things that make you think about how fortunate we are that the many systems in place seem to be built with us in mind as the primary benefactor.
Tree's growing fruit would be a simple but provocative example, fruit generally speaking keeps its self clean and un-infected with a skin or covering, which is inturn usually very easy for us to peel away, the peeling then is not burdensome to us (like so many bi-products we produce which leave us with questions like "so where can we dump this stuff?") because we can simply throw it where ever we like on soil and it will decay and in turn feed the plants to bring forth more fruit for us to eat and of coure not only us but the rest of the organic system we call our planet.
I give it a 4 because like so many documentaries about space, it uses a good deal of computer graphics, which is of course more of an artistic preference on my part. I would also have liked more technical information, i would like to come away feeling more informed of the inner workings of alot of the things talked about on this DVD but you can tell its not that sort of program, that would probably make it cumbersome to people who arent so techinically inclined and it would also make this DVD turn into several DVD's.

Something Special May 12, 2006 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
Not so long ago I remember my family being captivated watching Carl Sagan's "The Cosmos" I now realise that this presentation of the Cosmos and other concepts such as "Darwins theory of evolution" devalues the great uniqueness of "Our Privileged Planet" I saw a TV presentation of The Privileged Planet and was awestruck as to how unique we really are. If you want to input something really meaningful into your spirit then get the book and watch the DVD. Great for the eye and for the mind. I am ordering copies for gifts for the rest of my family. I want them to know the truth!
Our unique place in space April 14, 2006 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
The DVD thoroughly and convincly shows our unique place in space. We live in the only habitable zone in the solar system, and the only habitable zone in our galaxy. In fact we are uniquely placed to witness the whole universe from where we are placed. It's as if we have been given a viewing platform to check out the wonders of creation.
Planet Earth provides all the special conditions to support life - gravity, the oceans, the atmosphere, even the closeness and size of the moon, the tilt of the earth etc, etc. The physical constants of the Earth and of the universe are working in harmony to such an extent, that some scientists have stated that they are "finely tuned" to support life on Earth.
I found the DVD absolutely amazing and thought-provoking.
