The Man Does Ireland Proud June 17, 2008 For those who may experience watching Dylan for the first time, they may not get the gag and they may not get the person behind the mic. Dylan has always had the moniker of being the relaxed rambling comedian of whom some may see as a ridiculous drunk talking a load of crap, but to others he is seen as a genius of random comedy and is someone that can do an entire country proud. Understanding the man behind the mic and understanding where he's going with the comedy isn't really that difficult, as you come to notice there's a method behind the madness.
I recently had the pleasure of seeing Dylan Live in person as a part of the Three Fellas tour, along with Tommy Tiernan & Ardal O'Hanlon. I must say I was there just to see Moran and I wasn't disappointed as he tore the roof down with his witty non-sensical humour and ramblings that have you roaring with laughter, yet at the same time have you raise an eyebrow and ask yourself "Wait what did he say?"
He's a truly brilliant comedian and Monster is the DVD that must introduce you to this wonderful comedian.
Spectacular comedy April 13, 2008 This is the most raucous, most funny, most dizzying stand-up performance that these eyes've ever witnessed. His observation is as sharp as a jagged edge tapered to the single atom, and his musings are spot on. He comes accross as a stumbling drunkard, but he really is - after you've given him 5 minutes - on the ball to such a degree that he and the ball are one. Anyone who gives this lower than 4 has their head where their arse should be, and their arse... somewhere else.
Safe as houses December 10, 2007 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
I think that fatherhood, fame and international travel have dulled Dylan -his last show at the Edinburgh Festival was entirely predictable stuff - it is hard to be funny when you don't drink as much and you become grown up.
Side-splitting, cry with laughter funny April 22, 2007 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
dylan moran is quite simply an amazing stand-up! I went to see him live on the Monster tour and he was absolutely hilarious, comedy genius. as soon as the dvd came out i went and ordered it. dylan's humour is topical to both the wider world and the everydays of life. he has a unique outlook which has none of the ego or self-pomp of american stand-ups, he's definitely in my favourite 3 stand-ups. for anyone who likes black books, this is a dead cert.
GENIUS. END OF DISCUSSION. April 10, 2007 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
People who have said that they didn't like this because they loved Black Books are missing the point of what good comedy is all about. Why would any true comedy fan want a writer to carry on making the same type of show, over and over again?
There are only three, maybe four people who truly deserve the title of comic genius, and Moran is one of them. His humor is NOT, as someone here has said, based on making fun of others or-God forbid-mocking those who's opinions differ from his own. His humour is about his own clueless stumble through life, and the stress and frustration he feels at everyday things, like we all do at times.
What sets him apart from all the others, is his wonderful, lyrical style, and the wonderful images he can conjure up in just a few words. He drinks and smokes on stage because life is too short and irritating to not allow yourself the vices you enjoy. Why try to come across as Mr Clean-And-healthy, if part of your act is based on not letting petty rules and annoying health-freaks change your behaviour?
It is hard to describe the pain-inducing laughter that his unique style and comedic delivery induce, as there is no one else around to compare him to. But if you like to watch a comedian who expresses the frustrations we feel about modern life expertly, and do it in a way that is wholly his own, then Dylan Moran will never disappoint.
An Irish comedy hero.
