Volume Four March 15, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This fourth and penultimate volume of the great Avatar animated series contains a further four episodes. The first episode of the volume (episode thirteen) sees Katara and Sokka sick after the storm of the last episode forcing Aang to go out on his own for medicine where he is captured by the newly promoted Admiral Zhao. This episode is my favourite from this volume with some great action and a good plot.
In episode fourteen Aang and his friends visit a village that has grown reliant on a powerful fortuneteller and will not believe the danger they are in. This episode has the feel of a filler episode about it but it is still as funny and entertaining as you would expect from this show. The episode also adds to the relationship between Aang and Katara.
Episode fifteen sees the trio stumble encounter Bato, a Water Tribe warrior who is friends with Katara and Sokka's father. The chance for Katara and Sokka to reunite with their father causes friction among the three friends and things are further complicated when Zuko hires a bounty hunter to track down the Avatar. This episode starts off rather slow but a small amount of information on the Water Tribe is interesting, the episode does pick up towards the end however with a great duel between Aang and Zuko.
In the final episode of this volume, Aang seeks out a firebending master to teach him the techniques required too master the elements. With Aang impatient to learn he rushes his training and causes and accident that leads to Katara discovering she possesses powers she never suspected. This is another good episode that includes some good information about the nature of bending and a small amount of background for Admiral Zhao.
Avatar continues to impress with these episodes and it is easily my favourite animated series to come out of America in many years.
