Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
For those who found 2004's Aliens vs. Predator too lightweight in the gore-and-guns department, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem offers a marked improvement in both categories, as well as a respectable amount of rumbles between the title extraterrestrials. Set in the 21st century (which predates the story to all of the Alien features), Requiem sends a crippled Predator ship crashing to Earth in a small Colorado town; unbeknownst to the locals, the craft is loaded with H.R. Giger's insectoid monsters, which make quick work of most of the population. As the human cast is slowly whittled to a few hardy (if unmemorable) souls, a Predator warrior also arrives to complicate matters and do battle with the Aliens, as well as a ferocious Alien-Predator hybrid (dubbed a Predalien by the sci-fi and horror press).

Visual-effects designers and music-video helmers The Strause Brothers (who make their feature directorial debut here) keep the action on frantic throughout, which is wise, since the dialogue and characters are threadbare at best; that should matter little to teenage male viewers, who are inarguably the film's key audience. Fans of the Alien franchise, however, may find the offhanded nod to the series' mythology given during the finale its sole saving grace. --Paul Gaita, Amazon.com

1 out of 5 stars don't bother yourself   May 16, 2008
AVP is a doomed franchise if it does not come up with a good director for the next one. Shaky cam for fight scenes???? You want to see full body full shot crisp scenes when the icons go at it. Not a tail and a claw somewhere hitting something in the dark! Shaky cam has been perfected (if thats not an oxymoron) in fims such as the Bourne trilogy or the fantastic Coverfield but no praise here! Every scene itself whether good or bad didnt even give the audience the chance to identify or even care about the human characters. The film cuts the scenes to shreds as the editor thinks we are only capable of watching one scene at no more than 1minute 30 seconds long. The original movies had intelligence. They had action. they had proper good versus evil. Blurry lines as humanity against animal instinct or honour was examined. Even the first AVP was not a far cry from that idea as it did examine more carefully origins and encounters. Aliens or Predator is not a gore fest as some might think. The alien movies always questioned man. From 'screwing each one over to get a percentage' to cloning. Predator balanced honour against self preservation. Its not that difficult to see where its going wrong. If you want to see people dressed up and going at each other for 90 minutes just watch WWE!

1 out of 5 stars the alien attack on the maternity ward says it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   May 15, 2008
guff! People were laughing in the cinema dont be tricked into thinking this is worth your time it isnt. Its a cynical cash- in from Fox an dilutes the the legacy of the Alien franchise. The acting is terrible, there are plot holes the size of buckets and the acting is terrible. Laughably so!!!!!

2 out of 5 stars Dreadful sequel, but by all means please make more!!!   May 15, 2008
Well, first of all, let me describe the type of person I am. I'm one of those people that loves movies, all movies - good movies, bad movies and all thats in between. If i'm entertained, then I love it.
I really didnt think I could be disappointed (by the way, it is very hard to disappoint me), but they succeeded with this! I dont understand how it could go wrong? AVPR gives us excellent monsters, but terrible story and characters. Sure there's some story there and there are characters walking around on screen, but you will not like or connect with any of them. Its story kinda reflects Resident Evil: Apocalypse, however THEY bothered with cast and it had a point. Maybe if AVPR had one main character that was a popular and sucessful actor the film might hold your attention. It would be better as well if the film took more time over the story, it moves so quickly that a breather in between would have helped greatly. The movie also seemed to lack a structure, just being about this one day and night. The film has nothing really to over come besides escaping, an overall point to film would have helped. After all the hype about the Predalien, they really didn't do that much with it and we really didnt see enough of it. It was said that the Predalien would evolve into the next queen, which I think would have balanced the story a bit better, plus the audiece has never seen the maturing of a main queen alien character! try something new! anyway, enough ranting.

Bottom line... I would really like to see 20th century fox do something really special with the alien and predator franchises. Both franchises being very character driven films. Not so much the predators, but the aliens films were serious, classy films. Not only in story, but the look of them aswell. AVPR and AVP have adopted the visual style of modern horror films (Particularlly - Final Destination 2, 3, Black Xmas etc.)

So, get a real director! Get a point and don't drive one of the best film franchises in movie history into the ground!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pretty Please

5 out of 5 stars A vast improvement!   May 13, 2008

I bought AVP2 because it's one of those films you just have to buy, known full well that it is likely to be pretty bad (and with predecessors like Alien(s) and Predator you can almost guarentee it's not going to beat the originals). I did the same thing with the first AvP and was terribly disappointed, with it looking more like a Power Rangers film than a merger of 2 epic sci-fi horrors.

I think the film makers realized that for AvP2 and decided to try going back to capture what made the originals so good. Whilst many parts feel familiar (skinned bodies, LOTS of gore, APC's, removing of face mask for the final battle and a sweet little girl), they do manage to add a little freshness. I was particularly happy to hear segments of music from both Aliens & Predator, which give you that old nostalgic feeling.

This is the film AvP 1 should have been! If you bought the first film, you owe it to yourself to get this one.

1 out of 5 stars 1 Star is 1 to much   May 12, 2008
I love the original films and even liked the last A v P, this one sadly is a shocking disgrace. Think of american pie crossed with scary movie, teen american cheesy actors a plot that words cannot describe how bad it is even if i could swear here it still isnt enough, the plot sucks. The directors are brothers swine or something well they stink and im sure the original actors etc would be ashamed of this pile of crud, dont hire it and definatly dont buy it............Great Great shame could have been a good film turned out to be one of the worst EVERRRRRRRR.
