5 out of 5 stars Underappreciated   February 14, 2006

I know that other people have railroaded this little book, they dont appreciate it I'm afraid. Johnny tremain is an invalable tool for helping anyone understand the times and more importantly the spirit behind the American Revolution. It shows how a troubled young boy can overcome personal problems to realise the true meaning of family, friendship and pride.

1 out of 5 stars This book is not worth a penny   August 21, 1999

This book, Johnny Tremain, really is a boring book. It has no sense whatsoever. DOn't read it if you don't have to

3 out of 5 stars Johnny Tremain: An Assigned Summer-reading book   August 14, 1999

For summer reading, this book wasn't awful, but I have read a lot better. I just finished Johnny Tremain today. Some parts were good, some not so good. I enjoyed the book when it got more into acts such as the Boston Tea Party and the battles. If you have this book for summer reading, just get it over with. Read it all at once. Good for long car trips. Try taking notes. But if you don't HAVE to read it, don't.

5 out of 5 stars A very good piece of literature.   August 3, 1999

I read Johnny Tremain in the sixth grade, and ever since then it has been one of my favorite books. True, it may be a little bit slow sometimes, but all in all it was excellect. In the night I could stay awake for hours longer than usual reading about Cilla and Rab and all the other characters. Even my sister, who is a very picky reader, loved this book. I would give it more than five stars if I could, and I recommend it to readers who enjoy classics. This, in my opinion and hopefully in the opinion of lots of other people, is absolutely a classic!

4 out of 5 stars This is a good book for mature readers.   July 31, 1999
I bought this book for my 10 year old son to satisfy a summer reading requirement of a novel about the Colonial era. I tried very hard to get him to read it but when that didn't work I read it myself. I actually liked it quite a lot. But I understand why he won't be interested. There are a number of places where it gets very slow and only mature readers can get through it. We read "Carry on Mr. Bowdicth" aloud last year and he liked that very much. He seems eager to read it again instead of Johnny Tremain.
