2 out of 5 stars just ok   March 22, 2008

This was better that the Perils of Pursuing a Prince but not as good as her previous historical novels. Again the plot was entirely unconvincing as there was simply no way that I believed that the heroine could have been blackmailed in the way descibed especially given her family backgroung and the rank of her cousins/sister's husbands.

There was too much focus on premarital sex between the hero and heroine and it was only fairly late in the day that the consequences of same seemed to occur to Phoebe. At least there was some focus upon the difficulties as regards relations where there is an 'apparant' disparity in rank.

I like Ms London's writing style but wish she would return to a more historially realistic basis in her romances.

5 out of 5 stars You WILL NEVER go wrong with a Julia London book in your hands   January 21, 2008

Lady Phoebe Fairchild is very aware that the ton would have a field day if it learned of a young lady of quality involved in trade. Therefore, she resorts to selling her beautiful, handmade gowns under a fictitious name: Madame Dupree. When unforseen circumstances force her to take a commission at the estate of William Darby, the Viscount of Summerfield to design ball gowns for his sisters, she assumes 'Madame's' identity. Phoebe's discomfort in her new position as hired help is nothing compared to her overwhelming attraction to the viscount himself. Fiendishly handsome and sinfully seductive, Will invites her to be his mistress and Phoebe is oh-so tempted to accept. But as their desire for one another grows, and the risk of exposure becomes even greater, Phoebe is in dire danger of losing her reputation, her livelihood and her chance of becoming the bride of the man whose passion has claimed her forever. The 3rd book in The Desperate Debutantes series, Julia London goes out with a bang. This has everything Julia's fans have come to expect: passion, romance, wonderful characters and an impeccably written story that flows and grabs the readers attention. Also, if you missed reading Tino Georgiou's masterpiece--The Fates, go and read it.
