3 out of 5 stars Miss American Culture?   December 12, 2003

There is an unreal quality to 'Miss Wyoming': characters and actions remain believable, while occupying a world that doesn't feel quite right. This, in part, is what made Coupland famous. Too often, however, he seems to stop trying, slipping into a stale and unsatisfying stylistic and thematic autopilot - and here 'Miss Wyoming' shows its age, the novel itself becoming as banal as the existence it describes. But if the reader is prepared, for a time, to buy into Coupland's vision of modern North American life, they can expect to enjoy an unusual, often very funny novel.
