This is COMEDY February 10, 2006 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
These two comedy thrillers are light, very funny, laugh-aloud spoofs of the spy genre, closer to Jack Trevor Story than Ian Fleming. Why the publisher wants to sink their own book by so wildly misdescribing this volume I have no idea! As readers of Moorcock's literary books and his Dancers at the End of Time sequence know, he can be wonderfully funny. There are passages in these two stories which had me helpless with laughter. It's good to have them available again but don't expect the dull, standard generic fare the blurb suggests. Moorcock's descriptions of Portobello Road are wonderful, as his his character, Jerry's horrible old Uncle Edmund, and the second story is set in the world of English comics, which Moorcock knew so well. If out and out fun is what you want, these are the books for you!
