4 out of 5 stars A great summer or rainy days read   July 2, 2008

Loved this book and had difficulty putting it down until I'd finished it. You definitely need to read Chocolat first in order to set the scene for this sequel.

Loved to hate the character of Zozie, who I'd expect to be the star character if the book is made into a film. Bit disappointed in the "wimpiness" of Vianne (the main character from Chocolat) but, for me, that made this book refreshingly different and I'd say it was a brave move by the author.

Loved the way the narrative switched from one character to another too.

1 out of 5 stars Furious!   June 25, 2008
Having pre-ordered this, I waited eagerly for several weeks - a new book by Joanne Harris is worth any wait. But NOT a re-issue of The Lollipop Shoes. Why didn't Amazon point out that this was just the US version of a book available in the UK for some time? They did eactly the same with The French Kitchen - different cover, and new title, My French Kitchen. The book is superb, if you don't have The Lollipop Shoes then do buy it, but I'm not happy with this type of marketing.

1 out of 5 stars BUYERS BEWARE   June 23, 2008

This is The Girl With the Lollipop Shoes under a different title. I really think that Amazon should warn buyers that this is the case. I sent my copy back straight away. This is happening more and more especially with American versions which have different titles I have been caught out before.

1 out of 5 stars Girl with no Lollipop Shoes!?   June 18, 2008

As an avid Joanne Harris fan, I waited and purchased Girl with No Shadow as soon as it was available. I was unaware that this is in fact the same book as The Lollipop Shoes! The latter, I have read, so am now in possession of the same literature with a different name! I either missed any information about the fact that these were the same book or now feel conned!

1 out of 5 stars Never mind the title - it's rubbish whatever its called!   June 2, 2008

There seems to be alot of complaining about the title on these reviews. It isn't Amazon's fault that the American version is called something else, so there is no need to be disgusted, bla bla. Why do we let American publishers change the title of our books is another subject...!

Anyway - I have enjoyed some of Joanne Harris's books - Chocolat of course, as well as Sleep Pale Sister, Gentleman and Players among others. However, this was a waste of my time. Cliche ridden, over descriptive and far, far too long. The only thing I enjoyed was the description of the chocolates being made in the shop. Don't bother.
