5 out of 5 stars Wedding days   July 5, 2008
This book is gorgeous romantic froth & I loved it. How does Fforde manage to make her heroines real women, juggling jobs, families, relationships, and yet, her men are pure fantasy figures? Still single & straight in their 30s, bruised by love but not bitter, kind, helpful & sexy all at the same time. Sarah is a wedding planner who doesn't believe in romance; Elsa, a dressmaker who needs some self confidence; and Bron, a hairdresser with a boorish boyfriend who wants to make some changes in her life. When a Hollywood celebrity hires Sarah to plan her perfect wedding, Sarah is eager to take up the challenge, with help from Elsa & Bron. Then, her younger sister, Lily, announces that her wedding is planned for the same day, and could Sarah help her plan the perfect wedding with no budget at all? Throw into the mix three lovely men - Hugo, the photographer who reminds Sarah of a miserable love affair; Lawrence, the best man at a wedding where Elsa steps in as bridesmaid at the last minute; and James, a gardener with a bruised heart who lives next door to Bron - and you have all the ingredients for a lovely romance.

2 out of 5 stars Not up to her usual standard   June 29, 2008

I struggled to keep reading this book to the end. The story seemed to drag along. I'm sorry to say that this is the 2nd book of Fforde's that I have struggled with and I've read them all. I find the earlier books much more enjoyable.

3 out of 5 stars Hmm, not her best   June 27, 2008

I have to agree with The Duchess on this one; the love lives were obvious from the start and to be honest I kept reading and thinking that it couldn't possibly develop as easily as that, but it does. There are no twists or changes in the plot to make the result less predictable.

On the plus side it is an easy summer read, full of positivity and light heartedness, but I feel Katie Fforde has written better books, or rather better plot lines than this.

2 out of 5 stars Not The Best   June 21, 2008

After reading all of Katie Ffordes book except Going Dutch I was really looking forward to Wedding Season and I could'nt wait to finish it, unfortunatly for all of the wrong reasons. The 3 main women of the story are all flat and I could not connect with any of them, they all seemed too good to be true to turn their hands to every little emergency that popped up. The "love stories" were sign posted a mile off and were boring and predictable and everything just seemed too convinient and happened far too easily. Too much detail about the wedding and not enough detail of the people and places. Very dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars Light 'n breezy   June 19, 2008

WEDDING SEASON IS THE perfect summer read, or perfect read for anytime of the year. I rank this right up there with THIS CHARMING MAN and THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES. This is story of Sarah, Bron, and Elsa who seem to have the knack of pulling off the perfect weddings and organizing everything . . . but their own lives. The contrast between their Swiss-watch perfection in making other's dreams come true, and the funny events that ruin and run their own lives is refreshing and somehow real-life-like. The dialogue is great and the characters are three dimensional. What was the one thing I didn't like about WEDDING SEASON? I couldn't put it down.
