a thousand splendid suns July 4, 2008 having read Kite Runner I wasnt expecting, but was hoping for another brilliantly thought provoking emotional book- and thats what I got. Simply fantastic. I cried, I smiled, it made me think. You have to read this.
Superb July 3, 2008 This book should be introduced as mandatory reading material in schools. It was very well written. The author cleverly gives enough detail without having to be graffic but you very much get the point. I could happily read this book again and I don't think I've ever said that about a book. I'm going to get the Kite Runner now as I hear good things about it.
Unforgettable June 28, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
After being overwhelmed by Hosseini's The Kite Runner I couldn't wait to read his second novel and I wasn't disappointed. An absolute "must read" for all book lovers. Am now just awaiting a third offering. Hosseini writes with such compassion and conviction he makes you believe you were there in Afghanistan witnessing the whole story.
Great Story June 26, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book provides you with an insight into a world that most people will never experience. The fact that people are still forced into marriages with someone that they barely know is frightening. This book reveals more savage tales from Afghanistan and would have you believe that Hosseini has witnessed some truly brutal scenes in his youth. Buy this book if you liked The Kite Runner.
So Powerful and Captivating June 24, 2008 I have recommended reading this book to so many people. It is so powerful and captivating. At the page where the little girl shows so much grace before being taken to the orphanage, my heart sank and I had to read the rest of the book there and then, I could not put it down.
As well as a very powerful story, this book also demonstrates the core problems of Afghanistan in its struggle to become a contemporary country amongst the world community.
