Sweet and Simply Moreish July 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In helping to plan my best friend's wedding, I was only to glad to accompany her on cake-tasting missions. After much sampling and mirth, we found the perfect cake at Maisie Fantasie's. Amazingly, May Clee-Cadman invited us into her home for a cake-tasting menu not to be forgotten. While there, I laid eyes on a copy of her book, Sweet and Simple Party Cakes. As a consolation prize to not being the one getting married, May gifted me with a copy of the book. I am now on my third cake making recipe of hers. Her directions are instructive, yet casual and very easy to follow. And while my frosting never turns out as smoothly as hers and my cakes never as even (I must admit I drink while I bake), the taste is remarkably similar to May's actual cakes and just as delicious. I don't see myself being a cake baking competitor any time soon, but I will forever be a fan of Maisie Fantasie and any book May Clee-Cadman writes.
Absolutely perfect! July 9, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've just received my copy of this book today and I am really pleased to say that it is exactly what I was hoping for, and more! It is not only beautifully presented, but the designs are just stunning as well as the steps being really easy to follow. I can't wait to get baking!
Wonderful Cakes! Wonderful Book! June 24, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Having already experienced May Clee Cadman's fabulous cakes I was of course drawn to her book which is as beautiful as her cakes. The instructions are clearly presented and I've already made one of her simpler cakes and the result was not baaad! All my friends were sooooo impressed. Thank you to May for sharing her skills with us.
A lovely book June 23, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
My husband just bought me this book and it's delightful. The pictures are beautiful and I think the designs are fresh, new and elegant. I particularly like the clear and simple instructions. Perfect for budding cake makers everywhere!

Just recieved this book - first impressions there is nothing new ie that has not already been shown in other books.
But what did catch my eye is the disclaimer;- The author and publisher have made every effort to ensure that the instructions in the book are accurate and safe and therefore cannot accept any liability for and resulting injury, damage or loss to persons or property however it may arise
loss to persons - take it this means when you create the cake top on page 115 - cut of the heads of the flowers (roses and flame lilies) for the top of the cake and gently push them into a small ball of icing stuck to the top of the cake. You can also use florist wire to insert them into the cake if you prefer.
Flame lilies are highly toxic (deadly) so obviously they won't take responsibility when you kill the customer or the guest at the wedding. There is no mention of a posy pic (which you must always use ie you can't push wires straight into the cake) so obviously again they won't take responsibility when you are contacted by environmental health for foreign bodies in the cake.
This book also suggests that its ok to push mini indoor sparklers into cakes - do they not read the instructions on the packets (that the sparklers come in) whichs show the symbol (glass and fork with a line through it) which states its not suitable/safe for food use.
