5 out of 5 stars A must must read !   May 27, 2008
This fabulous book had me laughing out loud and a few pages later had moved me to floods of tears. Robert's account of his trip to the Bluebell Woods at 'Mulguy' and picking flowers for his mum was simply magical. And his lucid account of the treatment from his brutal father was simply heartbreaking. I just couldn't put this book down.

This is the best autobiography I have ever read and I don't read many.It made me laugh and it made me cry.Robert's trip to the dentist was the funniest thing I've read for ages.He has such a beautiful way of telling his story and it's one of those books you don't really want to come to the last page of.I would recommend this book to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book   December 28, 2007
This book opens up lost memories in the back of your brain that you thought modern day life and all its mod cons had taken away. Robert writes the book with such ease that the words just flow off the page and into images of yesterday in your head. Even though his father was a cruel angry wee man that never showed a bit of love, his mother more than made up for it making his childhood a happy one dispite him, so the book isn't about child abuse its about love. If you are drawn to nostalgia then this is the book for you.
