Plan Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz July 3, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I had some hopes for this book. I looked forward to detailed plans of Hitler's meglomaniac designs for battleships [some of which he thought of in his tramp days in Vienna] and the Royal Navy's response [The Lion's]. Instead what we have is a by the numbers German Naval History of the twentieth century. No Yamato class Bismarks here! Besides the glaring historical errors,to quote page two on Bismark " He insured that the new unified Germany was from the start a strong country able to withstand the pressures from a neighbouring France and Poland, and the not so far distant but mighty Russia." Poland did not exist in Bismark's day and was NOT a factor in his diplomacy. The book is turgidly written with a poor 'what if' part as a conclusion. Very poor, not recommended.
