2 out of 5 stars Good and bad   June 7, 2008
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

I've been unwell since September 2007. My eyes are sore and swollen all the time and I feel generally rotten, and no doctor has been able to diagnose what's wrong with me. As a result, however, the skin under my eyes has become stretched and loose, and I've developed huge hollows under my eyes. I'm 34, and until recently people always thought I was in my 20's. So as you can imagine, it's quite disturbing to suddenly age 10+ years in a few short months (I definitely look my age now). So I decided to get this book, to try to do something about it. I've used it now for 2 weeks.

First the good... my hollows have been filled in. Not completely, but there is definitely an improvement. My cheekbones look much more defined. My swollen eyes are just as bad, but I reckon nothing short of surgery can help me there. My jawline is stronger.

Now the bad... it has definitely stretched my skin. I have loads of fine lines which I didn't have before, and some of the small acne scars and damaged pores are much more pronounced. My forehead is the most noticeably damaged area. There are many lines now that weren't there before. The exercises themselves are not particularly obvious to follow... I've since seen the video, and I was doing some of the exercises slightly wrong, and had misunderstood what she meant by "pulsing".

So I've stopped doing the exercises before any further damage is done, although I may continue with the eye exercises, because a few lines is better than the horrible hollows my mystery illness has created! So just be careful. Perhaps my skin is just easily damaged, but maybe yours is too.

EDIT: 11 days since I stopped the exercises and my face is in ruins. Huge lines and stretch marks and large craters have developed. My face has a jigsaw like appearance. I feel very, very, miserable. Approach this programme with extreme caution.

5 out of 5 stars Don't be Suspicious   April 2, 2008

Don't have any suspicions about this book - I've only been doing a sample few of the exercises, but I have diligently practiced them twice daily for the past few weeks and have achieved a remarkable difference !

I am in my mid-twenties and had noticed my facial skin slackening and looking tired - I am therefore eternally in Ms Maggio's debt for helping me combat these issues myself. I wasn't looking to alter the appearance of any features but through her exercises my nose has become prettier, my cheekbones higher, my jaw-line is far more defined and my double chin has receded - my complexion is far improved and I feel I have my fresh, perky looks back!

Despite the obvious all-out vanity of such a routine, I have to say that the knowledge of my improved facial appearance has really given my confidence a good old boost. Wow, this does sound like a sales blurb, as so do many of the other reviews, but this program clearly works. Thank you so much Carole !

5 out of 5 stars Facercise - Totally Amazing   February 21, 2008

I originally bought this Facercise book in my late forties, but life got in the way and I didn't really get into the exercise programme. I'm 52 now and have started using the book and DVD and I'm writing to say that I'm amazed by the results I've achieved in just a short time. Already I can see wonderful changes in my skin, my facial muscles are toned and my whole face has lifted. People are asking why I look so happy...what have I done... what am I on? It's not just the happy smile I have within - knowing that I have found something that works, but it's more that my mouth corners have actually lifted and along with the rest of my face I just look younger and happier... instead of looking tired and sad I now look happy and have my cheeky smile back.
I'd recommend getting the DVD as well as the book, the two work perfectly together.
Just give this a try... if you follow the instructions - it will work for you too! But you DO have to do it, not just read/watch it. Could save you a fortune on surgery... if you're already thinking of taking that route!

2 out of 5 stars Difficult to understand   February 6, 2008

I have a suspicion these 5 star reviews aren't all real. This is a fairly interesting book - and I do believe the theory behind face exercises. The problem is that this book is quite hard to follow in terms of a) knowing whether you're doing the exercises correctly and b) understanding what she is talking about! For example: "visualize crushing a pencil between your lips" and "imagine that your cheeks are moving out from your face towards the ceiling, then exiting, like two small balloons, through the top of your scalp".
Excuse me?!!
Some of the exercises are good and you can feel them working; however several seem to rely on what Maggio calls "the mind-muscle connection" which appears to entail just imagining that you are exercising the muscles. I'm sorry, but I fail to see any science behind that. That's a bit like going to the gym then just imagining running on the treadmill!
The eye and the neck exercises are good. The cheek and mouth ones much less so. If Maggio concentrated more on exercises which actually physically worked the facial muscles and less on the 'imagination' part, the book and the exercises would be a lot better and a lot easier to follow.

5 out of 5 stars Facercise worked wonders for me!   January 8, 2008

This is far out the best book about facial exercises available. I had bought several other before I learnt about Facercise. Carole Maggio really gives the answer how to most effectively slow down aging and tone up your face.
I have been doing all exercises on a daily routine since 3-4 months now. It is fun doing and the results are amazing! I really worked out 10 years (at least!) off. Besides that I managed to change some features I was less content about. So did I make my lips fuller and did I get more symetrie in my face. For men I recommend ALSO Carole Maggio's book Facebuilder for Men. It stresses on exercises that target the characteristic male features.
