Stuck in rut.... Buy this book June 23, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have read many books and watched countless makeover programmes but have never been inpsired to act on the advice given by the professionals. That is until i picked this book up by accident whilst browsing in the bookshop. If like me you have been stuck in a rut and given up then this book is for you. Whatr sets this book apart from the rest? The author's inspiring story on how she got to where she is today. That alone motivated me to buy the book. This book has re-ignited my passion for taking control of my life and to begin now to create the life i dream about.
A welcome surprise February 28, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I brought Nicky's new book after reading about her in Suzy Greaves' book 'Making the Big Leap'. Nicky was one of Suzy's clients and is mentioned throughout Suzy's book. I've never really been into the whole fashion makeover tv programmes, so I really brought this book out of curiousity after reading Suzy's book. I thought 'here's a chance to prove that my original opinion still stood'. However I couldn't have been proved more wrong. I really loved this book - full of great advice - and it's an excellent read alongside 'Making the Big Leap' - the two books give you both perspectives of coach and client (and they both mention each other in their books) and it all comes together. Nicky is really honest and open about her journey and gives you tips along the way, not only about style and looking after yourself, but about following your dreams. I never would have guessed that prior to her tv show, she had to really stick to her guns and not give up and go back to mainstream just to pay her bills! Nicky deserves the life she's made for herself and now I keep going back to her book to give me inspiration to go after the life I want!
A delightful book to read & a joy to own! February 22, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I can't recommend this book highly enough. It's comes out at the time of year where it's really easy to lose sight of who you are and what you want, so reading it (particularly now) is very inspiring. What I have found most refreshing about this book is Nicky's honesty, passion and the way she writes from the heart. It's a lovely book that appeals on so many different levels and one I'm sure I'll pick up again and again. It's also something beautiful to have on my coffee table!
Not Just Another Look Good Book! February 19, 2008 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I thoroughly agree with the previous reviewer, this is a wonderful book!
I would add, don't think this is JUST ANOTHER "make yourself look good" book (this did cross my mind before I bought it!), it is so much more.
Nicky Hambleton-Jones offers a no nonsense approach to making the most of yourself, both mentally and physically; and demonstrates how the two do go together. Whilst she offers a common sense approach, her style of writing is never irritating. She gives it to you straight, but in a fun and friendly manner. Rather like an older/wiser sister or a best, best friend. Her life experiences and skills as a stylist are all there for you in a highly readable book, that is, I feel, both inspirational and movtivational.
I bought this book in the dark days of February, when perhaps the intentions made in January were starting to ebb away... It was the best thing I could have done. I have read it from cover to cover, and know I will be referring back to it in the months ahead.
I already feel lighter, brighter and more determined! Here I am writing my first Amazon review!
Thank you Nicky.
Going forward February 15, 2008 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
A beautifuly presented book, making it an easy read as it is so delightfully presented. However, the presentation is just the icing on the cake. Inside is an open an honest appraisal of getting organised and getting what you want. What surprised me is the ease with which Nicky Hambleton-Jones takes you on a journey. I found her focus on knowing what you want or having a dream not only interresting but useful points on crystallising that dream. The idea of on paper as a wish list is incredibly easy. I have only formalised it all in my head but already my shoulders felt lighter - it is a joy to know you can do whatever you want and even if you don't succeed it is better to do it than not. Obviously Ms. Hambleton-Jones has been succesful so her advice is easy to swallow but it is the idea of turning dreams into reality that is the key motivator here. The book is straightforward, full of practical tips for transforming body and mind. It is nice to read a book that is about self help but doesn't wander off into spirituality. It remains grounded in the here and now but wisely allows you to choose your destiny. The use of experts helps it to be more rounded and gives additional perspectives. Overall Top to Toe is a pleasurable read and has a cheery disposition - you can't help but be infected!
