| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review Taking Charge of Your Fertility is a comprehensive book that explains in lucid, assured terms how to practice the fertility awareness method (FAM), a natural, scientifically proven but little-known form of birth control. Author Toni Weschler has been teaching fertility awareness for almost 20 years, and it's only just now gaining in popularity. As the book explains, by using simple fertility signs including peaks in morning body temperature and changes in cervical position and cervical mucus, it's possible to determine when ovulation is taking place. Fertility awareness is therefore useful for not only couples who are trying to conceive, but for those who are aiming to avoid pregnancy without the use of chemical contraceptives. It will be of special interest to those women who have suffered from infertility; many FAM practitioners have told the author that by filling in the detailed charts in the book, they've realised that they were chronically miscarrying, even when their doctors told them they weren't conceiving at all. As the book explains, by charting body temperature, it's simple to tell when pregnancy has occurred--and when there's danger of miscarriage. Taking Charge of Your Fertility also explains how to choose the sex of your baby by timing intercourse according to certain fertility signs. It also features thorough, easy-to-understand explanations of hormones, the menstrual cycle and menopause, along with fertility tests and treatments and their long- and short-term side effects, plus a top-notch resource section. This is recommended for any woman who wants to better understand her body. --Erica Jorgensen

Great April 29, 2008 This book is great-my wife and I used it and saved a lot of time and hassle trying at the wrong time!!! We conceived in two months and now have a lovely baby girl! It's really worth getting!
An eye-opener April 16, 2008 I bought this book thinking I pretty much knew how conception and the female body works but not quite understanding why things weren't happening for me. After reading this book I have had my eyes openened. I would recommend this book to any woman of child-bearing age who would like to understand in more detail how her body works, if you know how and why something happens it is a lot easier to prevent it OR make it happen!
Highly recommended December 31, 2007 Excellent book, explains reproductive and contraceptive info in a way that's easy to understand and more comprehensive than the standard education most of us get on this subject. The most useful info re conception so far.
An absolute must-read for conception! October 24, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After being told there was little chance of any more children for me (due to various factors, one being advancing age), I found this book. It became my bible and I read it over and over again. I discovered that, frankly, my knowledge of my body's inner-most workings was worse than minimal, a discovery which shocked and saddened me. However, following the knowledge gained, BINGO! Baby number two was conceived!
In my opinion, at the other end of the scale, this book should be part of the school curriculum - this is the sort of thing which needs to be taught in sex-ed; it may reduce unwanted teenage pregnancies.
I wish I had this years ago. September 11, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have conceived my first baby using these guidelines! I found my cycle difficult to understand, especially as I came off the pill earlier this year and my cycle went crazy, I went for 3 months without a period so I had no idea when ovulation would occur.
I knew a bit about charting from looking at websites, but none of them go into this process in such detail and with such conviction and reassurance.
It makes me angry to think that I pumped myself full of chemicals for the last 12 years in order to not get pregnant when I could have used such a simple and effective method. I sincerely wish I had known about this earlier and all women who are considering trying to conceive, looking for natural birth control or just knowledge about their bodies really ought to read it. I always considred myself well read on this matter, but after I read this, I realised that I only knew a tiny fraction.
The writing style is easy to read and it is set out really well. I read it like it was a novel, although it is really easy to use for reference purposes.
It was a relief to read it and find out that all my worries had answers at last.
I really recommend this more than any other book I've ever read.
