A good comprehensive resource May 22, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I build decks for a living and thought I would take a look at a few books for more design ideas, although most of what was contained in this book I already knew, I still found tips that were very useful, The book is based mainly on American standards so imperial measurements are in use throughout the book but that's not a problem really and Americans have been building decks for a very long time, so for the beginner and novice I would recommend this book. I bought brand new from Amazon and delivery was just a few days, so service was excellent as was the book.
Top book pity about the retailer May 16, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is amazing, and has all you need to build your own deck. But. I`d beware of who sells it for amazon as mine took 4 weeks to arrive!!!!
Nevertheless, building a deck is not a piece of cake.. May 9, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
GREAT book!!! Everything is detailed and explained. Reliable and thorough text. Step-by-step pictures. However, if you are a casual handyman you'll find out that building a deck isn't just a weekend's work. Best results come with a bit of help from a smart friend or relative... A friend of mine who overestimated himself set out for a deck and ended up with a horror that had to be taken down half way through :-)))) I'm doing just great with mine. Good Luck!
Buy this book and you will be able to build your own deck December 12, 2004 29 out of 30 found this review helpful
Buy this book and no matter what your skill level you will be able to build your own deck. I read this book and was even more convinced I could build my own deck. The deck I am planning to build is very large, will have a hot tub in it and be multi level. I have every confidence that I will be able to do it myself and when visiting local timber merchants who sell decking I discovered that I knew more than them. It stops them from giving you BS. I posted the book to my father-in-law who's is going to help me. He phoned me two days later and reckons that the book has given him everything he needs to know in order to build the deck. If you are planning a complex or a simple deck this book has it all.
Decking for the novice made easy May 14, 2004 16 out of 17 found this review helpful
This is an excellent book, the detailed descriptions are explained in layman terms and there are plenty of pictures to put everything into perspective. I am by no means a DIY expert but I am confident that I will be able to build a deck with the help of this book.
