5 out of 5 stars Makes it easy   October 3, 2006

I have lots of gardening books, some of them are even useful. But this is the best I've found for stirring up confidence and enthusiasm. I just need to browse its pages for a few minutes and I want to go and pull on by gardening shoes and gloves. As a reference its not perfect but as an introduction and ideas crucible its great. And the two halves blend beautifully, you barely see the join. There is very little repetition.

As a beginner this book has everything I need to know. It is very straightforward with good accompanying pictures. I'm sure I will refer to this book many times in the coming years.

Nice simple straightforward book that complements the series well - which is still being repeated on UK style gardening if you can catch it! Definitely a good book to get you started at gardening and sorting a weed from a flower!

5 out of 5 stars All you need to know   November 14, 2005

When I bought this book I was looking for an all-encompassing book that would tell me how to get my building site of a garden to resemble something...anything....! Alan Titchmarsh covers every single aspect of gardening in this book. The topics are laid out logically and the illustrations are excellent.

I thoroughly recommend this book to beginners like myself.

A comprehensive, detailed and expertly written book. It has everything you would need to know about how to be a complete gardener, as the title says.

Each chapter is easy to follow and the book is nicely set out with some gorgeous photographs.

It has given me lots of wonderful ideas for my garden and is a real help for those of us who weren't born with green fingers !
