4 out of 5 stars Great for yarn addicts   March 25, 2008
Stephanie has a certain charm that is easy to warm to. The book is made up of short chapters telling of various knitting and fibre related adventures. They're cute and will make you smile, especially the one about the squirrel! Sure, it's not exactly a deep & meaningful book but it's an entertaining light read and her playful writing style keeps you interested.

It's nice to know that there are others who are just as obsessed as you and make the same mistakes! Fab read. Couldn't put it down.

4 out of 5 stars Makes you think...   December 27, 2006

Of course it is about knitting and obsessively so. But it is also about being addicted to a hobby and that is something not only knitters will recognize. Sometimes a bit over the top, but then, you don't have to read it all in one go. She does make you want to knit and that is probably the most important aspect of this amusing book.

5 out of 5 stars Warm, wise & insightful   August 30, 2006

A lovely book. Steph's very first chapter is the cautionary tale of the Giant Green Afghan, in which she shocks a yarn store assistant with the sheer amount of wool she's buying. The author endures laughter from her mother ("that's a lot of knitting!"), invents psychological techniques to force herself to knit 200 identical green squares - and finally gives up, stuffing the half-completed item in the back of the cupboard.

This chapter alone tells you that Yarn Harlot is not going to be one of those preachy 'this is the right way to knit' books. Rather, it is like getting a warm and very honest letter from a friend who loves knitting even more than you do, but who isn't actually very good.

A heartwarming read. On completion, I wished I knew the author personally. She sounds like a great gal. Thoroughly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars A great read for knitting fans   August 29, 2006

I bought this book because I had read a bit of Stephanie's blog and thought it was very funny. She is more obsessed with knitting than I am so it's a cautionary tale! The stories she tells are hilarious and some of the knitting nightmares she has had are familiar to everyone. If you don't know much about knitting yet you may be unfamiliar with some of the terms she uses but don't let that put you off, it's brilliant.
